We are going in reverse, more turnovers, more penalties, fewer points.
If we loose to Akron it's deja vue back to the Knorr years all over again.

But on Monday we will hear that we’re improving. Not seeing it overall, but we did improve our yardage which means nothing if you can’t score.

You know, we’re kinda decent between the 20s (not good!!! but 4-8 to 6-6). Unfortunately, both platoons would make UCONN or Vanderbilt look like playoff contenders between either goal-line and the nearest 20

Well, our offense might have been impotent but at least it was balanced -- 179 yds rushing, 169 yds passing.

And our defense might have given up an appalling 373 yds rushing, but they didn't let NWern beat us through the air -- only 88 yds and no TDs there.

Always willing to spray a little Glade on the manure pile.

A fellow alumnus who was at the game posted on social that they don't sell alcohol in NW's stadium. Those of you who went to the game, and stayed past halftime are to be commended.

Bonus points if you snuck a flask in, and stayed to the end.
They sold it before kickoff. I stashed 312’s.
Wait, sold in the stadium up until kickoff?
Yep. Section 113. They had Bud Light, 312 and Barefoot wines for $9 a pop. Sign said alcohol sales ended at kickoff.

The OU section was on the other side of the stadium (about as far as possible from Section 113), so a lot of our fans might not have known it was over there. Luckily we were in 110 and ran right into the stand.

They were getting something like 7.4 yards per rushing attempt. They didn’t need to beat us through the air

Even though it might not have happened were it not the last play of the game, it was still a fantastic run. A really terrific effort. But the best part was Armani's reaction on the sideline. No high-fives, no dances, no helmet, no bullsh*t throne. He seemed to be more angry about the loss than happy about his personal achievement. We need more of that attitude on this team.
+1 Exactly the attitude we need. I'd start him for that alone. He at least gives us a credible running threat, and his passing seems to be getting better while Rourke's seems to be regressing with all those uncatchable, over the receiver's head passes in crucial situation. Rogers plays with heart and guts. That can be infectious. I like his style.

Perhaps one of those sports analytics guys like Nate Silver will come up with some sort of equation that shows the biggest drop any sports team ever had. It could gauge teams that had hopes of winning their conference to utter desolation with regard to wins and losses and statistics all within one season. A further metric could determine how fast their season went off the rails. At this point, we could give just about any death spiral team a run for their money.

It wasn't like Northwestern were world beaters and this weekend was exactly a showcase weekend for the Big Ten with the Minnesota debacle against BG and Wisconsin's disastrous fourth quarter performance against Notre Dame. Yet we made Northwestern look great again with our no show performance.

In another era in sports and or World History, someone would step up to take the blame and offer to resign. Coach Albin's a known figure being here as long as Coach Solich. The concerns voiced on this board coming with those with inside knowledge about his lack of organizational and leadership skills were not a mystery. However, it seemed like everyone was just crossing their fingers. It ceratinly won't help his legacy if Coach Solich sold the new AD on a man about whom many had serious questions. In our world today, no one resigns or calls themsleves out for such a debacle, they just collect their checks and promise that things will get better, a perfect metaphor for our sad age.

His passing stats today weren't anything to write home about -- 1 of 3 for 3 yds and an INT. But he seems to bring a spark to the team when he's in and he never gave up on that TD run even though it didn't mean anything to the outcome of the game. He also has a better sense for the read option.

One could make a compelling argument that the perfect metaphor for our "sad age" is that you think a man who has been waiting his entire career to be a head football coach should resign after 4 games because you, some guy on the internet, are very upset with his performance.

I would say a much sadder thing about our current age is that too many people think their feelings should be catered to constantly. You're upset about the state of Ohio football, so not only should the head coach resign very early into his tenure, but the mere fact that he hasn't is somehow an indictment on the state of the world. Your feelings come first, and when they don't, it means the world is broken.

Albin's been bad. Inevitably, he'll be fired. But his not resigning on your desired schedule isn't some commentary on the state of the world, nor is it an indicator of lack of accountability. It just means that somebody who wants to be good at this particular job isn't.

No. But when he came in in the 2nd quarter -- after the offense had bogged down after Kurtis's fumble -- he had an 11-yd run for a first down that seemed to give the team some spark. Of course, that was followed with a stupid delay of game penalty thanks to the coaches getting the play in late. He can be worked on to become a better passer. Making Kurtis a better runner isn't going to be easy.

I'm not getting that weekend back. NW fans are as arrogant as Fiami fans. Evanston is beautiful but that is about it for me.

Anyone know how serious the injuries were for the 6 players who left the field?

There aren’t many of them.

The guy working at the coffee shop two blocks from the stadium said, “There’s a football game today? Yeah, they have those every once in a while.”

I’ve never exited a college football game and had no traffic around me before. I was at Portillo’s in Skokie in 10 minutes and on 94 within a half hour.

NU is a great place to watch college football at discount prices. It is not unusual for the visiting fans to out number the NU students and faithful. I watched Ohio State do their O-H-I-O cheer using all 4 corners. They are pretty harmless for the most part…but look down their noses at everyone in terms of their school VS the world, particularly academically.

It happens more often than you think. Especially at the G5 level where drastic drop-off in talent and coaching has a huge effect. Even at historically decent to good programs.

As some of you know I got my master's degree from the junior institution in Cowtown. I had also applied to Northwestern. They put me on a waiting list for a possible GA appointment. I had been on said list for a month or so when O$U calls with a firm offer. I had really hoped to go to the Medill School of Journalism because it was one of the top schools in the nation. However, when I called NW to tell them I had a firm offer from Ohio State and wondered if they could tell me my chances of getting a GA position at their school, I was flabbergasted at their response. This is fairly accurate paraphrase of what graduate coordinator in journalism at NW said to me, "Well, son, if you are even considering Ohio State, you are probably not the kind of student we would want here. I think you should go ahead and accept their offer." I hung up somewhat shaken, and called Galen Rarick, his counterpart at the Big Farm, and accepted the OSU offer. So, I concur, NW is a very stuck up and arrogant place!

I will note that I attended the game (and many others at Ryan Field) with one if my best friends who is an NU alum. He did not charge me for the seat, I’ll note. He, like many other NU alum, are fairly humble about sports, looking at their teams as lovable losers, like the Cubs. There are very few non-NU alums who are fans. I have many very close friends and relatives who are NU grads. Do they shake their car keys at visiting teams? Sure. Do they mock their opponents about their inferior SAT scores? You bet. But sitting among them this Saturday, as Rogers crossed the goal line, to what was to be their victory fireworks display…I thanked them for the celebration assuring them that it was totally unnecessary. We all shared a laugh and headed for the exits. They grow on you after a while…
