I may be totally off base with these thoughts on tomorrows game but wanted to share them anyway.
After having read JA's article it appears that NW has some serious deficiencies. So many so that it has given me some real positive thoughts on this opportunity for our boys.
Northwestern has so many issues; QB play, turn overs, poor scoring, poor defense, etc. Yes, they have big O & D lines, which seems to be their only strength.
If we are able to force some turnovers I think we could actually win this one.
GO BOBCATS
I'm glad you posted your thoughts and I like the positivity-I hope Ohio can find a way to win also.
Glad JA is finding some positivity too but stats can be hard to wrap your arms around sometimes, especially early in the season. Yes, the Wildcats are 105th in the FBS in rushing yards allowed but two of the three teams they played are also in the top 16 in rushing yards gained. Northwestern allowed 260 yards rushing to that Michigan State back but that same MSU back also gained almost 200 against Miami, Fla., so maybe part of the issue is that the Wildcats just faced some really good rushing offenses? Time will tell
I think Ohio has some chance to win but I'd feel a lot better if Ohio had one side of the ball at least was playing with some consistency.
The biggest surprise so far for Ohio is the Offense, I really thought they'd be better than they have.
I think though, to be fair, that the missing players on Offense has been a real valid issue, missing at least four starters for some or all games. The missing guards are hurting our running game. The back up guards have come in and done well given their inexperience.
I hope Ohio can find a way to get it together. Hopefully, the return of WRs Cox and possibly Buckner will help get us some explosive plays.
I'd also feel better if we didnt lose to that FCS team. The losses to Syracuse and Louisiana are tolerable but that loss to Duquesne was what I think has folks discouraged the most.
