While Marshall is our rival and I generally root against their success, I have to admit that I’m happy that their dreams of going big-time when they left the MAC all those years ago have finally been realized.

I wouldn't have minded Marshall and WKU joining the MAC.

FWIW: The SBC must have really wanted Marshall. The SBC Commissioner was in Huntington for press conference and said the SBC waived the $2 million entry fee for Marshall.

That's pretty crazy that the Sun Belt waived the $2 million.

Actually wonder if that played into them joining the SBC over the MAC.

Nah...Marshall just didn't want to be the downtrodden Ex that came crawling back after thinking they could do better.

I love how the northmost team (Marshall) heads south for a new conference while 2 schools south of them (WKU & MTSU) head north. The maddening geography of college football realignment...

I am sure it was a factor. Marshall will have to give up $3 million in CUSA revenue for leaving. If the MAC takes WKU and MTSU that gives CUSA only 3 schools. I am not sure what will happen to the $3 million if that happens.

And weirdly the only one who has stuck geographically has been the MAC. They tried the football only thing for further away schools and it failed. The Sun Belt is now pretty tight too, but Marshall would have fit way better with WKU and us than they do with anyone in the Sun Belt.

Maybe the MAC wouldn't give in to T'erd's demand that the next ten MACCGs be played in Huntington. ;)

Hey, it's an easier drive from Athens to Huntington than to Detriot, just saying . . .

I think that I read that the Sunbelt waived all four entry fees.
