If you knew ahead of time that the Cats would only lose by one point on the road against Buffalo, you would have thought that they would have put in a pretty decent effort. Now enjoy the rest of the weekend with that perspective.

Yes, if...

they hadn't led 21-0 after the first quarter and 26-10 after three.

they hadn't had so many stupid penalties on both sides of the ball and from the coaching staff.

they hadn't missed so many tackles by trying to knock a runner down instead of wrapping up.

Fact is, it was Buffalo's first-quarter confusion and its third-quarter botched punt fake that kept us in the game today. I'll try to enjoy the rest of the weekend by trying to forget the awful mess Ohio football has become.

Yes, the old “if my Aunt had balls, she would be my Uncle” angle.

Not buying it

And Frank lost his share. So your point is?

That's an easy one. No one from Frank's staff should have been retained. Over the past several seasons folks here have said keep Frank and get rid of his staff. His retiring was a time to do it. Athletic director gets to put her stamp on the program vs inheriting the staff. Didn't matter the retirement came close before the season--Shoulda cleaned house! Now she will have to do it anyway.

Do you think before you post? Or are you trying to be Monroe 2.0? So Cromer should clean house 7 weeks before Syracuse? This is great humor to offset a tough loss.

Sorry but we should not feel better because we lose a close game to any MAC East team this year. If we actually had a program instead of what we currently have, we would expect us to win all of the MAC East games. Right now the combined overall record for all of the MAC East teams is 14-28. As for OOC, these six schools have victories over five FCS schools (LIU, VMI, Wagner, Bryant and Murray State) and two FBS schools (ODU and Minnesota). Currently the top two schools are Miami (3-4/2-1) and Kent State (3-4/2-1). Then there is Buffalo (3-4/1-2), us and Akron (2-5/1-2). Finally there is Bowling Green who is (2-5/0-3) but claims a win over Minnesota. So no, I would not feel better because we lost a close game against any MAC East school. The MAC East is truly the basement for all of the FBS conferences.

Then quit following Ohio football. Go volunteer. Help the homeless. Be a tutor at school. GET a LIFE.

You know, I was thinking about the two worst blown leads during the Solich Era. There was a MACCG vs NIU where we led 20-0 at the half and the offense went stale and we lost 23-20 on, as I recall, a last-second FG. Then there was the Cincy game where we led 21-0 in the 2nd qtr and the offense suddenly went conservative and we lost 34-30. And I thought, yeah, Solich blew some games.

Then I remembered who was running the offense.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm retired, so I have an excuse. Now, when I was working my boss used to send emails regularly anytime between midnight and 5:00 a.m. -- weekdays, weekends, holidays and "vacations." That's really not having a life.

Yes, and in the Cincy loss, with Ohio knocking on the goal line for a game winning score we call a bonehead pass play that results in an interception. After the game, Frank says that he should have overruled that call, but that he takes full blame. Wonder whose call it was that he said he should have overruled?

A corollary of this proposition: Can anyone see Albin ever pulling an upset of Penn State, Illinois or Pittsburgh? [Interesting that this year Pitt's only defeat is by WMU.]

And you are going to hire a complete staff in July? Good luck with that! We have some quality coaches and people on this staff. Bottom line you people spend 10 months building up the talent that we don’t have and then get upset when they play to their talent level.

I think people have lost the spirit of my original message. Win or lose this team isn't competing for a MAC championship or an invitation to a Dec 19th bowl game. It's not worth getting too uptight over this. There have been too many frustrating games over the last xx years for this one to bother me.

As for bad coaching strategy, I nominate the guy on the Buffalo staff who never thought they would run the ball nearly every play in the first quarter. There is no way the Cats should've jumped out like that. Buffalo is the better team and if they played again in three weeks the Cats would probably lose by 10 points.

Maybe Penn State-Scranton, Illinois-Quad Cities, and Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

Or, maybe they'd pull the upset on us, as Coach A has trouble with lower divison teams from the Keystone State!
