Hope that LA Chargers assistant job he turned down earlier this year is still open.

Akron as a whole is hemorrhaging money so dumping a coach, even with a relatively modest buyout of $600,000, is bound to justifiably upset a lot of people.

On a related note, Fitch just downgraded Akron's bonds. The analysis behind the decision is harsh but true:

"The downgrade to 'A' is driven by larger than expected enrollment losses in fall 2021 totaling 9% of headcount and 11% of full-time equivalents (FTE), as well as expected reserve drawdowns in fiscal 2022. Continued enrollment losses, in context of challenging regional population and economic trends, will further pressure the university's revenues and will constrain financial performance. UA has managed expenses well through a period of steadily declining enrollment, but its relatively high debt burden and the increasing difficulty of further cost cuts will limit budget flexibility."

It’s obvious they have far more issues to deal with than wasting money buying out a coach. Whatever they get, they deserve.

How does this differ for anyone else?

Doesn't OHIO deserve its AD, coach, players and record? Doesn't the other school from Athens deserve to be ranked #1 with their perfect record?

If they are having financial problems, then compound those problems by buying out a coach for 500k, for their meaningless football program, they get what they deserve. It appears to me they have bigger issues to deal with.

Maybe we could buy their stadium from them, put it on a flatbed and put it down in Athens.

As long as it wouldn't arrive with the debt load that it's carrying.

Yikes. They're paying at least $4.3 million a year through 2038!! for that empty stadium. I've seen more recent figures as high as $5 million a year, which seems possible given the lower bond rating. What a catastrophic error to build that thing. As rickety as Peden is, it's paid for and we should all be happy for that.

I just want the stadium, they can keep the debt.
