Their message board, like their athletic department, is in perpetual beta mode.

I know they have alumni, but does Miami have fans?

I went over to their message board for some schadenfreude and left disappointed. There's a dwindling handful of people keeping that thing going because disinterest in sports seems to be a badge of honor among Miami alumni.

Even with a hapless team and hopeless season, Ohio has more engagement in its program from fans and students.

That was my suspicion.

In the postgame thread on the college football subreddit, this was echoed by a bunch of Miami fans. Basically, they only care about UC and sometimes the home opener because "yay, college football is here." Their student marketing is still all in on hockey even though that program is nowhere near as good as it once was.

I commented in the chat last night that I've been somewhat impressed with our student engagement with football considering the season's results. The turnout and energy for Syracuse was tremendous and it looked like not a half bad student turnout last night either. The anti-Miami chanting and the 3rd down "oooo" thing came through loud on TV, even well into the second half. I'm impressed also with the student response to the good women's soccer season.

My son was there with his swim club teammates. He stayed for the whole game and when I spoke with him afterwards he was more than a bit hoarse. It was good to see so many staying even after halftime.

The paltry number of stalwarts there actually make it an enjoyable board. It's less lively but usually more interesting than most MAC boards.
