Yesterday

WKU 45 - Charlotte 13
(Bailey Zappe passes for an impressive 393 yards and 4 TDs)

MTSU 35 - Southern Miss 10

Both are now 4-4 and still in bowl contention.

Don't expect it, but would really like to see them join the MAC.

We had it first! And, our band plays it better!

Knock the Hilltoppers off their perch and kick 'em down in the valley! -- Could make a cheer out of that.

If both joined, how would the divisions be changed?

BGSU to the West?

In the event this expansion happens, could there be a North and South Division for football?

MTSU fans seem to be 50/50, but lots of good and insulting comments on a move to the MAC.

I only looked at one thread (not sure if there are more) and most of them seemed pretty realistic on the state of their program and what options for a conference exist.

I don't think anyone out there would view the MAC as an exciting option for conference membership but there is something to be said for stability and a fairly compact footprint from a travel standpoint as our member schools aren't exactly loaded with cash.

Personally I'd welcome MTSU and WKU into the conference.

Wouldn't mind seeing say the YUM Center being in the mix to host a future MAC Tournament either.

How about:

NORTH

NIU
WMU
CMU
BSU
UT
EMU
UB

SOUTH

OHIO
Miami
KSU
Akron
WKU
MTSU
BG

The one that fits the worst is BG, but we could just pretend that this was put together by United Methodists who didn't see anything wrong with placing Athens County, which borders the Ohio river, in their West Ohio District! ;-)

I agree, though, that North South is a stretch, though I kind of like the concept. As usual, the devil is in the details.

Well, it must be a "done deal" since we're already seeing maps with our new conference partners appear on various web sites, and you know if its on the internet it's got be true! ;-)

I think that's one way. Another would be swapping BSU and BG to get Toledo and BG back in the same division. I don't know how important it is to BSU to be in a division with NIU. My guess is not so important.

NORTH

NIU
WMU
CMU
BGSU
UT
EMU
UB

SOUTH

OHIO
Miami
KSU
Akron
BSU
WKU
MTSU

Another obvious one would be to put WKU and MTSU in the West since they are farther West than anyone but NIU and move Toledo to the East to pair them with BGSU. This might be the best alignment for OU. But WKU and MTSU might not like being in a division with NIU and the Michigan schools and Vice versa. It makes the East more compact geographically than the West.

WEST

NIU
WMU
CMU
EMU
BSU
WKU
MTSU

EAST

OHIO
Miami
KSU
Akron
BGSU
UT
UB

Then there is the Northwestish/Southeastish option

NORTHWEST

NIU
BSU
WMU
CMU
EMU
BGSU
UT

SOUTHEAST

OHIO
Miami
KSU
Akron
UB
WKU
MTSU

I would think it would be one of those four combinations. There will be a lot of internal arguing and compromising because it isn't obvious which it should be.

I feel like Akron is probably going to be the one screaming the loudest if they get placed in a division with the newbies. They like their little Eastern bubble. That being said, moving Toledo to the East is very intriguing. Certainly shuffles the balance of power in football.

Looking at that map that OCF posted and drawing circles:

Great Lakes: NIU, EMU, CMU, WMU, Akron, Kent State, Buffalo

Other clever name: Ohio, Miami, Ball State, BG, Toledo, WKU, MTSU

Shifts the balance of power in football, maybe makes EMU a tad more relevant?

BREAKING:

Brett McMurphy
@Brett_McMurphy
MAC “likely” to add Western Kentucky & Middle Tennessee, perhaps by end of week, pending approval by MAC presidents, sources told
@ActionNetworkHQ
. If so, C-USA will have lost 11 of 14 members w/only FIU, Louisiana Tech & UTEP remaining #MACtion

Other clever name would be "Market Garden" (?) Sorry, had to drop a Cleveland beer joke.

Actually now that MT and WKU is all but a done deal, that would mean two 7 school divisions, would it not?

I like the East/West option. Keep all the Ohio teams together with Buffalo and put everyone else in the West.

I'm glad the powers that be have been reading Bobcatattack about WKU and Middle. Boosts our street cred. 😄

To get to 16.....how about allowing Belmont to join even though they don't have football, and get Murray St to go FBS? We could raise funds to build stands on the visitor side at Murray.
