Wow, what a night to be a team that in seasons past wouldn't have made the playoffs.

#1 vs #16 led to lots of blowouts. Lambs to the slaughter--hope none of the kids suffered lasting injury in their 57-0 loss.

It is not basketball where an 0-20 team plays the best and will walk out alive in their loss. It is football where every team after a full season showing they are inept should not be playing another game.

It is okay for the MAC to schedule against Alabama, Clemson and O$U's of the world because their school gets a big payday. What does the #14-#16 kids get other than their arses kicked?

Just like D1 college, there are more high schools being created in Ohio and playing football, so they felt the need to expand the playoff. It's not like last year when every team that wanted to play got in. It's more like when March Madness expanded from 48 to 64 teams. But with the divisions and the regions some teams that should've been included weren't and other teams got in that shouldn't have. One team in the playoff was winless, another had one win and several had two. Meanwhile, my local high school's 4-6 team didn't make it, even though some lower division teams in the county got in with much worse records. But like March Madness, that's the system. And so far some 3s, 4s and 5s have gone down and there have been blowout wins by lower seeds and several close games.

There you go, another reason I do not wager. Who would of believed it?

127 games held Friday evening. There were 16 upsets (those not in top 8 as was the format for past 20 years)

Seeds
#16=1 win (Milan Edison--they get to play a number 9 Friday so perhaps they can be the Cinderella team in 2021)
#15=1
#14=3
#13=2
#12=2
#11=1
no #10 won
as is to be expected, #9's fared well vs #8 with 6 wins in 16 different games.

DivOne--#1 vs #16 total score 189-37
DivTwo--156-40
Div3-- 139-42
Div4-- 166-31 which included #16 Milan Edison winning 23-22 over #1 Bellvue.
Did Bellvue play a bad game, did Milan get stars off the injured list,
should Bellvue have been rated that high? Other scores of games in
that region: 56-7; 47-0; 46-0; 41-7 so other teams took care of
business.

On any given night...

But then there's the Los Angeles situation where Inglewood beat the other high school in its school district, Morningside (2-8), 106-0. Inglewood (8-0) is being reprimanded for being unsportsmanlike -- they went for two with the score 104-0 and their QB (a UCLA commit) threw 13 TD passes -- and will be investigated. Interestingly, their coach was fired from a job five years ago for using ineligible players. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/highschool/2021/10/... /

Or perhaps famous son Thomas Edison invented some game-winning trick play.

Or, maybe the light bulb went off the the QB's head as he improvised the game-winning play.

A winless team made the playoffs? Sounds like every kid gets a trophy.

It was Cincy Oak Hills in D1, Region 4. Must've played some real powerhouses to make the cut. Moeller, at just 7-3, was the #1 seed they played. Oak Hills lost by just 35-14. Moeller next plays #8 Fairfield (6-4), who beat #9 Mason (4-7).

A team ahead of Oak Hills, Western Hills, opted out of the playoffs after a season that included forfeits and a hazing situation.

Bellevue beat Edison 21-14 the first game of the year, so the result wasn't much different, only about an extra TD for Edison to win. Edison was 5-5 coming in but had not beat anyone over .500 (and was the only team Norwalk beat this year). But Edison had played relatively close games against good teams and just couldn't quite pull them out. Bellevue certainly wasn't a great #1 seed with an 8-2 record.

An interesting note, because of the win by the #16 seed, the #9 seed Perkins gets a home playoff game this week after being on the road in the first round.
