I’m okay with that scenario. We don’t make any money from athletics, so we can’t match those salaries. You also must realize that it’s not just about the money. An ambitious coach thinks if they can get to the right school and situation, they have a chance to win a national championship. That is a pipe dream in the MAC.
It has nothing to do with probabilities of winning a national championship. Athletics is self feeding for its own self interest of making sky high salaries. Support and interest for it are down in student bodies across the country. A better investment is adding more value to the college experience to make it attractive to attend and staying price competitive.

If you’re saying that paying coaches millions is part of the bait, I don’t agree. At least at Ohio.

What I'm saying is the P5 has a bigger problem on its hands where they are paying $8 million for coaches at places that top out at 9-10 wins and normally win 5 or 6 games each season. In person crowds for games at Miami Fl are often MAC level. The system is eating itself from the inside out. Who wants to be a booster to support it?

This is starting to trickle down to the MAC level where buyouts of over 1 million are happening in the MAC like in the case of Akron cutting ties with Arth and owing a million yet on his contract.

My fear would not be losing MAC coaches to become assistants in the P5 as they've had assistants make 1 million for a while but the MAC feeling the need to pay 2 million to attract top assistants only to be saddled with buyouts a few years later when they are fired. If you don't think the MAC will go that direction in HC salaries then we don't have a problem.

So, how do you do that? Sounds really simple!

[quote=Ohio University]Ohio University holds as its central purpose the intellectual and personal development of its students. Distinguished by its rich history, diverse campus, international community, and beautiful Appalachian setting, Ohio University is known as well for its outstanding faculty of accomplished teachers whose research and creative activity advance knowledge across many disciplines.

Note the absence of "value" as a part. They want students to develop, but there is no mention of at what cost. Foolish person that I am, I would think that, for any University to be viable long term, it would need to deliver more value in student development than it collects in student tuition.

Lester just got a two-year extension at WMU and will get an additional year each time the Broncs get at least eight wins. He's currently making $800,000 a year but it's unclear whether the extension includes a pay hike. Probably does.

The Toledo head coach turned down a coordinator job at Miami with the Canes. He would have made about 1.8 million. No way can the MAC or Ohio compete at that level.
