Today, with Houston’s win over Auburn and Air Force beating Louisville, the G5 is 5-0 against the P5 in bowl games.
And the SEC is 0-3.
CMU will have a chance to make it 6-0. I wouldn't bet on it though. Most of these have been upper division G5 teams against middle of the pack P% teams. I guess that sort of applies to CMU's game too. The MAC was so muddled after the 4 really bad teams it is hard to tell who counts as the upper tier. Of course I am only about .500 in picking bowls so far so don't listen to anything I say.

The SEC is about to be 0-4. That has to adjust how we look SEC and thus the semi-finals at least a little bit. I wonder if the lines will come down a point or two.

Dousing the winning coach with the sponsor's product instead of Gatorade is starting to catch on. First I saw was fries at the Spud Bowl. Dabo got a Cheez-It bath last night. Expect to see a Frosted Flakes shower at the Sun Bowl tomorrow. If it catches on with some other current sponsors, it could be interesting:

Duke's Mayo
Quick Lane (used motor oil)
Tropical Smoothie
SERVPRO (water pumped from a flooded basement)
Chick-fil-A
Valero (month-old hot dogs)
Outback (bloomin' onions)
Any of the tax services (shredded tax forms)

I’m “going out on a limb” and predicting CMU upsets Washington State. Chips were playing pretty good football at the end of the regular season. I am looking for a short tree though. ;)

I saw that the South Carolina coach actually did get a Duke's mayo bath. It was either a three- or five-gallon Gatorade tubful of mayo. It wasn't a surprise, though. They took him to a special place off the field and had him sit down for it. Maybe the stuff doesn't come out of the turf very well.

So far WSU looks like a MAC team usually does in these games. No offense (they had a third and 34 from inside their ten), lose a fumble on a kickoff, now a bad snap on a FG try. Chips are looking good, though, and lead 13-0 with about ten left in the half.

Despite the outcome, Cincy showed that they belonged in the playoff. Yes, they were dominated by #1-ranked Bama, but the supposed #2 team, Mich, was equally routed by Georgia, which was ranked third. And Cincy's margin of loss was about the same as Bama's margin of victory over Georgia in the SEC championship game. They did about as well as any "P" team would have, and probably better than most of the "top tier" teams would have.

Considering how few of the semifinal games have been competitive since the CFP started, nothing about UC's performance points to them not belonging.

UC belonged in every way but conference affiliation. They are legit top 5 team and they have top resources. And expansion of playoffs, which would be nice is just not as exciting as some want to think. Because the sport is top heavy, this isn’t basketball, where one or two kids makes a world of difference
