You are correct OCF. Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy first opened in 1853 in Pineville, Louisiana. It was later moved to Baton Rouge and is now known as Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College or LSU and A&M.
Awesome info. I did not know that!
I was told that Sherman's portrait used to be in the basement of the administration building next to the women's restroom, but that a few black members of the Board of Supervisors (like our trustees) have managed to get it moved to more prominent location in recent years.
If LSU ever makes it to the SEC championship game again (or plays at Georgia Tech for some reason) they should definitely get that portrait enlarged and bring it with them, for prominent display on the sideline.

This seems like a good time for me to insert a random anecdote: my favorite part about the Atlanta Airport is the giant portrait of WTS that is painted on the wall of the tunnel between terminals...i think it’s between B and C, but I’m not really sure about that. It’s in the Civil War section (obviously)

That's a good idea, but an even better idea is for OHIO to do this the next time we play a Georgia school. Afterall, about 50 Ohio regiments were on the March to the Sea, including many from Southeastern Ohio.  I one time did a rough calculation and something like 6 out of 10 men of military age in Southeastern Ohio were with WTS in the Atlanta Campaign, the March to the Sea and the Carolina Campaign.

In fact, I once got famed Civil War guru, Edwin Bearss, whose official title was then and still is chief historian emeritus of the National Park Service, to speak here on this very topic. Below is the brochure we put together for the talk.  I wrote the copy and K. Marie Graham did the artwork.

Though I was prodded, and therefore might have a few points subtracted, I hereby apply for the BA Thread Drift Annual Award. There's lots of time left in 2018, but I want to make sure I'm in the running. Without Monroe, I think I stand a decent chance of winning, but I know it's still stiff competition.

I attended a game at UNC last Fall. If Burrow goes, he should start right away no problem. Their various QBs struggled mightily.

How much could future opponents play a role in where he goes? UC has a team called the Ohio Bobcats on their schedule this fall. And next year? At. Ohio. State.

I'm betting he doesn't want to have his father have to call defensive plays against him. So, I'm thinking UC will not be the final choice. But, then again, maybe they'd both like the challenge.

We recruited Burrow, his dad is on our staff, we don’t appear to be recruiting him now, so it is an Ohio football topic not recruiting, just like tos to wherever. Some of us are scared to recruit players like Burrow, we are content and whenever a certain notion is challenged, we get ridiculous post’ that are semantic in nature. It belongs here or there, just ignore it and move on. This has everything to do with Ohio football.

We have an extremely good QB coming back. He has two more years at OHIO. Why would we be recruiting a transfer who only has two years left? I think the team dynamics would not be good if Burrow came here and beat out Rourke for the job. And, frankly, I'm not even sure he would win the starting nod at the beginning of the season.

Rourke is coming off a surgery, but I am happy with him. I am just saying that this is a football topic, we are no longer recruiting Burrow. We got some small thinkers saying that he is too good for Ohio, those are the same ones playing the semantics game. Go Rourke, Go Bobcats

My thinking is somewhat opposite. I think at this moment, OHIO is too good for Burrow. Now, if he'd come here as a freshman, learned the system, knew the plays, knew his teammates' strengths and weakness (not from table talk with this father, but actual practice and game experience), he would have been a perfect fit. He's not that now, IMHO.

Why would anyone transfer to cincy when they can start at LSU or Florida? Makes very very little sense. He is heading south. He also needs to leave the state of Ohio.

The day he committed to OSU it ceased being an OU football topic. I hope any of you who complain about people wearing OSU gear around Athens realize how hypocritical that is. You all can't stop discussing OSU's backup quarterback on the OHIO Bobcat Fan Site. And he NEVER WANTED TO PLAY HERE!!! STILL DOESN'T!!! NEVER WILL!!! Scared to recruit Burrow? According to you we did recruit him and he packed his bags and never looked back! But thank you for the laughs this morning allen, your last sentence was a gem..."This has everything to do with Ohio football." You are hilarious!

Why are you so hurt about the discussion of him? It's a relevant topic as he is a fellow Athen's local that has connections to Ohio University. I'd rather talk about this than nothing at all.

He was in Baton Rouge last weekend for 3 days visiting LSU with both his mom and his dad. The coaches spent time trying to impress him on how he could step in and help LSU right now.

We'll know if this is a typical (read: sleazy) big time P5 offer if Jimmy is suddenly mentioned as a possible for the LSU defensive coordinator job. (L$U is like O$U to the Tulane folks.)

Word. If you don't care about this topic, then simply don't click on the link. I am interested in where his next move will be and I know there are some on here with inside info. All the debating on whether or not this discussion belongs here is so dumb.

As a matter of fact, the following article out of North Carolina has Burrow considering Ohio too, which thus makes this particular discussion quite relevant.

https://www.tarheelblog.com/2018/5/15/17356398/unc-tar-he...

In fact, I think that Mr. Burrow is learning that the higher up in Division 1, the more the coaches lie like snakes and have no intent of being honest with him. I wonder if Burrow wouldn't just be content in joining the Bobcats and thus help them dominate the MAC. As fun as young Rourke has been for the Bobcats, it would be "Rourke who?" once the more talented Burrow joins the ranks of the Bobcats and helps them air it out along with their run game.
