Kind of shocking how bad our kicker shanked that one. You ever watch the Friday Night Lights game out of Columbus and see how all those suburban high schools have good kickers?

But this academic scholar hit a 33 yarder like it was nothing...

Love Game Day and the FG try is epic stuff. That kid would have made that kick from 50. I was thinking the exact same thing greencat. We just need anyone that can make extra points and consistently make a 35-40 yarder before it costs us game down the stretch. Forget the 50+ yarder pipe dream. Too much pressure on the offense to score a TD when a short FG puts it out of reach.

This sounds like a crazy idea, but Mike Leach once found a kicker this way.

He hit that thing like it was nothing… in socks. LOL.

And the pressure to do it with $500K on the line. On TV. With Herbstreit holding.

How’s our engineering program these days?

The kicking game has been struggling lately. Back in May, I remember someone mentioning Britton Watts, a kicker the team brought in from Utah State. I checked out his Twitter, and he’s got some impressive clips — big leg, accurate, and even drilled a 70-yard field goal right down the middle. Might be worth giving him a real shot to see what he can do.

He is supposed to have a huge leg but not all that accurate. I found it surprising that he isn't kicking off if his leg is as big as advertised.

Where have you found that he is not accurate? They have him on the team, not sure why they don't give him a try.

Even though I am relatively certain you are Britton Watts parent, I still totally agree. The situation is so bad, there is no excuse for not trying every option at your disposal.

My son, a soccer goalie junior in HS, was brought out by the football team last spring. He routinely made from 35-40 with ease consistently. I know...in-game against a defense, pressure, etc. But still...he had never kicked a football in his life. And it was ultimately decided he wasn't gonna do it because they had another guy who was better. It is really hard for me to wrap my mind around an FBS school not being able to land a consistent reliable kicker.

Nope I'm not, but I did see 2 others on the roster that are not kicking. I can't find any stats on Britton so that is why I was asking where to find them. When you are at the place they are, why not try them all. Alex is a returner I believe so give him a chance?? He does have stats. So many games this season have come down to a last minute field goal. For us to make Detroit, they need to exhaust all channels. I looked at the depth chart and the team only lists 1 and 2 for all positions. Why are they not listing a 3rd? Then they have an additional players on roster but not injured???
Trying to go for a 4th down within 20 yards and not being able to rely on your kicking team is crazy.
I'm sure players parents have more access to the coaches than commenting on a message board.

They don’t want to put money in this position. They want them to pay first then get paid. Dynamics have changed from 10 years and longer ago.

I know we've been joking about this here on the boards, but the more our kicking situation doesn't improve, the more I'd be okay with trying anybody out for the starting Kicker position, even if we have to convince one of the players from the Lady Bobcats soccer team to sign up.

Yeah, our kicking situation is potentially that bad.

There are 4 kickers on the roster. Are they all incapable of hitting a 34-yard FG? We aren't asking for Weller or Zervos just a 34-yarder.

Hell, I'm not even asking for a 34-yard chip shot. Can we get someone to make extra points? My sister has some eligibility. What are we doin here?

My question is how in the world did Dellenback get to UCLA? This other kid who isn't playing and I've never heard of until today, Britton Watts, cool name, has videos of him hitting 60-70 yarders constantly. We can't get this brother to aim or something? Magnus looks a little better at punting. Can he kick it off the ground? The only enjoyment I get from Peacock is hearing people say Peacock.

I get it man. It's a confidence game. There is wind and bugs, your toes are chilly, Brenda from Zoology is making eyes at you from the Hill... but cmon.... It started as a joke on Gameday and now we have half drunk teens in their bare feet booting 35 yarders at 10am. And we can't get 1/6 kickers to do it? What is OU's tuition these days? $25K? $25K x 6 = $150K... I solved your problem. Go find a kicker and give him $100K. Give the remaining $50K to Josiah Yazdani to show them how to aim.

The kicking struggles are all the more frustrating after seeing what that Japanese kicker for Hawaii was doing. Was doing anything he could to get someone to offer him, from right up the road at Hocking College.

On that note, I'd say it would be a wise play on Ohio U.'s part to start investing in international recruiting of players. Hey, we already have an idea of that with Duncan Brune (Germany).

By the way, I'm rooting for Kansei Matsuzawa to do well in Hawaii.

One of my best friends is The Head Coach at Hocking….Ohio barely gives them any attention. That kicker could very well have been a Bobcat with zero to little effort.

Ya’ll realize we had to replace our long snapper and holder, right? A lot goes into kicking. Peacock was pretty accurate last year at FCS with the same ST coach. I’m not sure the problem lies solely with the legs; at least it didn’t begin that way. Right now I think it’s solely between the ears.

You speaking a level most don’t understand. Look at Kevin Kerr’s senior year after he lost his LS and Holder.

I can say from the one game I've been able to attend in person... NIU... That there was a snap or two that wasn't good and the holder did well to get them in place.
