I am not copying any ones comments because I don't want to bring attention to idiotic comments.

The Bobcats won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.

The Huskies chose to head SOUTH towards the HILL in the first quarter so that in the SECOND quarter they would have the WIND AT THEIR BACKS.

In the second half The Bobcats chose to defend NORTH END ZONE so that in the fourth quarter the BOBCATS would have the WIND at their BACKS.

WHY did EACH TEAM do THAT if there was NO WIND??

BECAUSE THERE WAS WIND and at times like on the FIRST KICK off of the SECOND QUARTER a very high kick by the BOBCATS into the WIND did not go real far and was returned real far. Then the next KICK in the second quarter, seeing that the earlier kick IN THE SAME DIRECTION was smartly squibbed with a shorter return then the earlier.

The pooch punt would have been an attempt of over 45 yards INTO THE WIND. The Pooch punt while not necessarily traveling far put the Huskies on the 15 yard line--not bad.

MY NON INTERESTED FOOTBALL SPOUSE commented to me all first half of how GOOD THE BREEZE OUT OF THE SOUTH FELT and how BEAUTIFUL the FLAGS of PEDEN STADIUM DANCED in the BREEZE.

That’s it, real cute kick it short and let them run it back 80 yards. This is just plain stupid coaching.
So we scored the second half in the first kickoff is a stupid ass short kick the kids in the ball the 44 yard line. Stupidest coaches in the country when it comes to kickoff.
You clearly were not at the game. They're was a stiff north wind aiding kicks into the endzone. In the other direction it was the right call to kick it high... we just didn't cover it well.

Give me a break the flags are barely moving there isn’t that much wind. And if you’re gonna kick it short, at least put it in the air so that you have some hang time.
The wind calmed considerably by the 4th quarter. Why are you arguing with people who were at the game?

I was at the game. It was not a stiff wind, and some of the time it was a crosswind and not directly north-south. It shifted back and forth some during the game. At times, it might have been enough to make a little difference in a kick, say adding or subtracting an extra five yards to a FG attempt, but some here seem to be exaggerating its effect, IMHO.

Because of the huge difference in yardage given up on defense, I was just wondering if we substituted much more in the second half, or that NIU just was less conservative then. They only had 78 yards in the first half versus 215 in the second. For a lousy offensive team, that’s a lot.

OCF is right on. And, I was at the game. Our kicker put the first two kicks at least halfway into the end zone, if not completely out of it. That wind couldn’t make more than a 3-5 yard difference. To me, the strategy is just a manner of risk. You put the ball in the end zone and there is little to no risk. You let them run it back and there’s always the risk of a big run back. And, most run backs that I have seen this year end up being outside the 25 yard line. Granted once in a while, we get somebody inside the 25 but again I would just be risk averse with kickoffs.

The wind was substantial above the field. NIU’s punts came off great and then hit the wind and then they died going south. The American flag was crisp. If you watched the senior introductions you would have noticed the all-state net “field goal” on the south end being pushed through the field goal on the field of play side. The kickoffs were clearly up in the wind kicking north… the long return you could clearly see the ball die kicking to the south. The squib was a good call because the kicker couldn’t reach the endzone kicking south. Also the punt from the field goal position would have been over 50 yards. Anyone saying anything different were not at the game.

I watched warmups before the game and the second half. The wind significantly hindered the distance of kicks heading toward the Hocking.
