A little birdie told me it was true . . . gone to a pro team. Can't vouch for it personally, but this little birdie usually has the straight skinny.

Good for him. Tough for this program. Two weeks until Spring Practice and you lose a big assistant. If true.

Well, let me put it this way: the birdie says the team nickname is Jaguars.

It's not like he's moving up in the NFL food chain. He was an offensive quality control assistant with the Browns. Dude is baling.

Then the concern turns to losing Fisher from this already thin class.

...or maybe he wasn't the solution. He showed up and the offense regressed. although, I'm not saying it was his fault. I would be more concerned if he had shown up, things improved and then he left.

Good point. Let's see who his replacement is, before completing our assessment of this move.

Well, somebody had to get the hay ready for the animals to eat. :)

I think T2's leaving doesn't bode well for the coming season, just because I'm sure he would've stayed if he thought he could make a difference here. Says to me we're in for more of the same next season, which is troubling. Yeah, he's probably making more money with the Jags but the situation there still isn't very good. If it was going to be better here he might've stayed.

Whether you were in favor of buy out or not, is there anyone on here that thought/thinks the overall quality of the program is going to improve much, if at all next year ?

I can't speak to the coaching side, but felt he was an asset to recruiting.

I expect it to. Not hugely, but I think the continuity alone will be helpful. Changing horses midstream is never ideal and we changed coaches like a month before the season. Just the stability should be helpful.

There's an easy to imagine world where we win a few of our close losses last year (Duquesne, Central, Buffalo) and are just a pedestrian 6-6. I think that's realistic for next year.

If we split the OOC games, I think the best we can do is 6-6. We'll have Akron, a weakened NIU (I think Lombardi is done there), Buffalo and BG at home and all are winnable. Last year's MOFO game could best be described as a non-loss -- if they hadn't missed a PAT and subsequent two-pt conversion they likely would've won despite our four TD lead in the third quarter -- and I don't expect we'll be as lucky this season. I don't see us beating BSU, Kent or WMU on the road.

As far as the overall quality of the program, it's hard to imagine it getting any worse. Defense was a shambles last year, but I'm confident that the new guys will improve it. Offense has a lot of holes to fill and has to improve at getting off our own one yard line. Special teams needs a lot of work.

They were 3-9 last year with a coach that was thrown into the job on short notice. The D-coordinator was not cutting it and was replaced. I like the new hire. I don't know what the definition of "improve much" is. With that, I will assume that there is a 50-50 chance they are much better if the definition is 6-6 or better.

Frank and Albin had been together forever.

I have to believe Frank knew, for at least a little while, he was
having health problems.

There's no way to know, but I would hope Frank let Albin know what might be coming.

I also wonder, if the timing of his retirement, was to pretty much assure the job
would go to Albin ?

exactly, he was hired in July, did not go through one full recruiting cycle, has ZERO college recruiting record/history, but we can determine this will hurt? Love to see the backgournd information myself

He has “zero recruiting record/history” but brings in the second best player in the class that has mostly P5 offers and is the 15th best recruit in school recruiting history per 247. He’s seen how P5 schools work and NFL teams. That’s a huge plus when it comes to recruiting.

What player are you talking about? Per your 247, we have the 132 best recruiting class in the country. Not sure we should be heaping praise on anyone who recruited the second best player on the 132nd best recruiting class.
