Topic: Winnipeg Blue Bombers just smoked Rourke

This was the first BC Lions game I've been able to watch so far, and it was a stinker for our boy Rourke. Announcers were high on him and thought the next time these two teams meet that it might be a different story. They were both undefeated going into this game. Still, his team is now 4-1 and he's considered a rising star in the CFL.

Casey Sayles had only one tackle but was in Nathan's face a good portion of the night.

Winnipeg is the defending champs and really played like it last night.

Well, if some team had to cream Rourke's BC Lions, I'm glad it was Winnipeg. That's an ancestral home in many ways as my maternal grandmother was raised in the town of Gimli, about an hour north of Winnipeg. Usually, I'd be rooting for them, but last night I was hoping that Rourke and company would win.

Stinker for the the BC defense.Rourke dropped 2 dimes that I don't think many CFL QBs can do. Leads the CFL in passing yards, TD's and QBR. 66 yard TD throw was all world. Stinker for Rourke? Not what I watched.

I used the term "smoked Rourke" to denote that the team he was leading got smoked. It wasn't meant as a personal indictment of Rourke's performance; though, I will say, that it was not his best game. In the third quarter, when there was still enough time for a conceivable comeback, he overthrew a receiver right into the arms of a Blue Bomber. That interception kind of eliminated the possibility of a comeback.

Yep, both of my maternal grandparents were born in Iceland and came to North America as young children. My grandmother's intact family went to Gimli, part of what has sometimes been called New Iceland, and my grandfather came with his unwed mother to Minneota, Minnesota, a small village in Lyon County which had at that time a majority Icelandic immigrant population. On my paternal side I'm all hillbilly, as my father's folks first came to Southeastern Ohio in the early 1830s.

Are you part Icelandic, also?

Well, Icelanders and Ukrainians are an interesting mix of cultures. As you might know, the word "Gimli," which comes from Norse mythology, has the meaning in Icelandic of a "place of shelter." I think most of the early Icelandic immigrants thought of it that way after being forced to leave their homeland due to tough economic conditions, brought on in part by volcanic activity.

Nathan is now 153/193, 1941 yards , 16 passing TDs. He was 27/33 last night with 336 yards and 2 passing tds. I rushing TD. That was his third game over 80% passing. BC is 5-1

He was outstanding again vs Saskatchewan. May have been his best game so far.

His passing stats are amazing. Computing pass efficiency with the college calculator, he comes in at 185, and even in the loss to Winnipeg he was 181. Here are the CFL Stats, and I see a few interesting things:

Rourke is number 2 in passing yards, but played one less game. Note that he is also the number 9 rusher in the league. Also note that he is spreading the ball around, meaning he is confident and comfortable going through his reads. He does not have a single receiver in the top ten targets, but he has five receivers in the top 28:

Hatcher 39, #16
Rhymes 37, #19
Cottoy 32, #23
Buttler 27, #28

Nice to see that Casey Sayles is the starter now, and has started every game this year.
