Jim Tressel is retiring as president at YSU effective February 1, 2023. IF THE NEED ARISES, should Ohio try to hire him for the football program? His problem with the NCAA was tatoogate at O$U, but that shouldn't be a problem in a NIL world and his five-year show cause order expired in 2019.

How much do you think Tressel will want? 2 million a year? The ROI is centered around TV and the bonus appearances are for making a MACC and a bowl game. Instead of 8 televised games you'll have 10. Smarter to go the Chris Creighton route and make bowl games for a quarter of the cost.

Tressel is retiring to spend time with family. He will be 70 soon. He had a lifetime contract at YSU so I think his reasons to retire are genuine.
He had an interview for the OU job many years ago and when he asked about the recruiting budget no one in the room could answer him. Arranged in Columbus by Mrs Galbreath and others but I don't think he ever seriously consider it.

Is there an option for "who the f*** cares about tressel?"?

One positive, if he was hired as HC, my collection of sweater vests would be back in style! ;-)

Seriously, this is an unlikely scenario, but not completely impossible. And, Hey, the last I looked Urban Meyer was still available. So many possibilities!

The premise of this thread is that we will soon have an opening in the HC position at OHIO. I wonder why I don't see this as a surprising assumption. I do hope it's a wrong one, though.

Funny thing is that Tressel still might be coaching at OSU if he just didn't lie to the NCAA Enforcement when they investigated. Lying and covering up is almost a bigger no-no in their eyes than the actual thing they're investigating.

I'll bite.

In what capacity? Coaching? Frank's advisor role? Cromer's AD role? JT hasn't been involved with football for years.

Think he found a genuine love and passion for growing YSU, the college, and doesn't actually miss the game. Certainly, he's had opportunities to return if he wanted them. He's done a great job at Youngstown. I think he feels accomplished and now is the time to retire.
