I think we will not receive much love from any of these magazines this year. We will probably be projected in the lower level of the conference with a win estimate of 4-6 games at best.

I could take or leave the Athlon preview magazine, but it does have one interesting section on each team preview page: the opposing coaches opinion of your team. I haven't seen it what Ohio's says yet in regards to that, but am very curious about it.

As far as Steele: I think he was waiting for Ohio to get over the hump for about as long as we all were.

Vegas odds right now show Ohio (+2,000) 9th, though the bottom three (Ball State +6000, Bowling Green +10000, Akron +12500) have way worse odds. Toledo (+300) is the favorite, with Miami (+375), Northern Illinois (+400) and Central Michigan (+450) pretty close to the same odds. Then a big drop to Kent State (+900), Western Michigan (+1200), Buffalo (+1400) and Eastern Michigan (+1600). Most years, there's a team projected in the middle tier that surprisingly pushes for the title. Gotta hope it's us. East looks subpar this year aside from Miami.

"East looks subpar this year" Is this a lazy copy and paste from any of the last 15 years?

You are correct, sir.

Here's the final few sentences from Steele's 2022 forecast:

"The team has 14 returning starters and should have much better health.
Last year Ohio had 3 net close losses and had an Ofeensive YPP of just 16.45. They rate a +4.5 in my stock market indicator, placing them in the 'going up' box in all 3 categories. Ohio is still searching for that elusive MAC title (they last won in 1968). They face Penn State and Iowa St. and my 9 sets of power rankings have them anywhere from 4-8 to 7-5. After being surprised by Frank Solich's resignation last summer, this team will be better prepared and will content in the East."

Man you can say that just about any season of recent memory.

I should hope we're in the "going up" box. At 3-9 last year there isn't much of anywhere else to go.

Yep, the voice of experience is speaking. It could get a lot worse. Let’s hope it doesn’t.

This team lost to Duquesne last year. Got curbstomped by bad teams. Were basically a no show against a weak BG team.

The likely starting QB has been given blind loyalty because of what his brother accomplished. Most FCS teams have better talent at the position.

My expectations are as low as ever. I didn't experience the 80s or 90s but Knorr ball wasn't too far off that and I got a snootful.

The Frank era may have been as good as it will ever be here. But I want to hit reset and bring in a whole new regime at this point-I don't think it would get much worse. We're closing in on 20 years of the same brand and its getting stale.

If it's a repeat of last year and TA isn't show the door, I think the AD needs to go, too.

Unfortunately I am in agreement on the upcoming season. There is nothing that happened last year that gives me confidence in this season. When you add the current trends in college football, my interest is at an all time low for the sport.

I've become less of a fan of the AD each year she's been here. Compared to her immediate predecessor she's kind of the invisible lady. Maybe she's spending most of her time at McDavis' old house in Lancaster.*

*Sarcastic joke based on laughable rumor about McDavis living in Lancaster and commuting each morning to Athens via helicopter.

We have a better option at QB? What do you base your analysis on?

FWIW, CFN has us 5-7, 3-5, tied for third in the East with BG and Buffalo, with wins vs FAU, Fordham, Akron, Buffalo and BG. Last year they predicted 6-6, 5-3, but that might've been written before Solich retired. They predict every MAC game here: https://collegefootballnews.com/2022/08/mac-preseason-pre... .
