And to make matters worse Jackson State is getting 3 WR transfers (2 from Indiana, 1 from Miami) and another TE transfer from South Carolina. Oh, and they are also getting Top-50 WR recruit in Kevin Coleman. The WR receiver room is looking mighty full.

Jackson State goes 11-2 and that grass is much greener.

Wait til "Coach Prime" moves on. Can't imagine his ego will let him stay at JSU very long. He's not the type to build a program and stay with it. When he goes, whatever talent JSU has will go, too.

I may be wrong, but guessing Hooks got in the portal and moved south to Jackson State to catch more than 16 balls and get more than 200 yards. Just guessing??

We will have to see. From what I've heard from FSU fans it was a mistake they didn't hire him.

Pretty sure if Akron, Bowling Green & Buffalo can get 7+ transfers we should be able to get more than 1..Just saying...

Group of 5 schools that have added the most portal players (who entered since 8/1):

USF: 12
UCF: 11
Colorado State: 10
Western Kentucky: 8
South Alabama: 8
Buffalo: 8
FIU: 8
Akron: 8
Liberty: 7
Utah State: 7
Southern Miss: 7
Bowling Green: 7

Keep in mind that many of the schools that are adding a lot of transfers have space or desperate needs for them. Or in other cases, needs for them due to poor recruiting. In relation to the MAC schools you pointed out, schools like BG and Akron were way under the 85 limit even last year in a season where every school in the country could return everyone (super seniors). I know that BG in particular was still under numbers even going into this year with their recruiting class. Right now Ohio has a two deep on the OL that BG could only hope to have right now. That's why half of BG's transfers are OL. Schools getting transfers isn't as attractive as it may seem once you dig past the surface and see why exactly they're being added. Ohio has been at or near the 85 limit for years. The Solich years had Ohio essentially protected from the problems our MAC peers were dealing with. While many schools have been hit by the transfer portal the past few years, this is the first year Ohio has really had to deal with it or experience it like this. Ohio has been living a protective bubble compared to its MAC peers when it come to issues like head coaching changes, the transfer portal, etc. Everyone has been be dealing with it for a few years now, Ohio's just late to the party. You will see Ohio add a few more transfers, but the need for them isn't as great as it is at some other schools.

This is one reason I never panicked when players hit the transfer portal. Some schools like Fiami have been hit harder.

With OUr new commits and transfers OUr 2 deep really shouldn’t be much different than the past. Preferred walk-ons look good and should help.

The February signing date could also bring some surprises.

OhioBobcat writes: "In some cases the recruiting has been so bad that the teams need to go to the transfer route." Wouldn't that be OHIO with lousy recruiting?

2021 OHIO Football--No Offensive players on MAC First team (couldn't find one guy)
No Defensive players on MAC First Team. So none of the 22 of our guys could make the FIRST TEAM.

Well perhaps OHIO had a bunch on the 2nd Team. Zero on Offense; Zero on Defense.

Well perhaps OHIO had someone on the third team offense--you know a interior lineman or special teams guy. NOPE not a single player who took a snap this year was on the THIRD TEAM.

Who was the offensive coordinator for years and should have been recruiting quality to Athens to at least make the third wave? The Head Coach we are stuck with--such a great recruiter.

Congrats to Two Bobcats for making it on to the THIRD team all MAC Defense. Two players in the top 66 of the league.

I got to tell you when I was looking at the list just now that the MAC released on 12/01 I wasn't sure that OHIO was still in the MAC as it took a lot of scrolling before I read the name OHIO.

I find it funny, you give Frank no credit for the players that were on campus this fall. Afterall, Frank was the coach when July 1st hit. That team personnel wise was his!

Our talent level was slipping under Frank and he is totally responsible for the players on this team. I felt like he never could find a consistent identity. Were we a "run first, hammer the middle" team? If so, then why did we ever go after guys like Hooks or James Bostic? Why are we not going for more Julian Edelman types or guys who could block like a Donte Foster? Defensively were we going for athleticism or toughness. We had a lot of 6-5, 250-pound defensive linemen mixed with short defensive backs and short, light linebackers. We have no identity and that needs to be addressed by Albin in his final year (2022-2023).

In other threads I said Frank left the cupboard empty. I pointed out that as offensive coordinator the now head coach did zilch in recruiting. Bringing up Frank now is like giving Trump the credit for record fourth quarter growth. Solich cannot be kicked anymore. The buck stops with the co-conspiritor Albin who got players to up their game so that two made third team all MAC.

Solich was able to mitigate substandard recruiting by getting a handful of players to overachieve just about every year. Albin doesn't have that knack.

I mean, you're not wrong. Those are all facts. During the Solich era we never had a #1 recruiting class in the MAC, and in fact many of the years we were mid to lower level but we ended up developing players well. With the way the transfer portal is now, teams can become much better and much worse quicker.

For example, look at NIU this year...went 0-6 in 2020, and then 9-5 this year, winning the MAC championship with a TON of freshman starting and a veteran transfer QB. Oh, and their last two recruiting classes were ranked 4th and 5th in the MAC, so anything's possible.

I know this is tick-tacky in the argument, but I don't really trust the recruiting rankings below 4-star players. Not enough time is spent on evaluation compared to what a team would do in their own evaluation. Solich did nothing to make Nathan Rourke overachieve--he was a great football player that nearly everyone overlooked.

OUr transfers have been impressive so far.

He should be a solid replacement for Cox.

Things are looking up.

I started getting that positive feeling yesterday when we added Coach Hauser.

Today’s news is icing on the cake.

How 'bout we give Coach Albin the opportunity to take hold of the program for a full year before we start casting him off? No one's more disappointed than I am but last year was more on Frank that on Albin IMO.
