Yes transfers will happen but it sucks to lose one of the more highly touted recruits, as a freshman, 7 games into the season...unfortunately this is the world we live in.

True, but remember, he wasn't even originally going to go to Ohio in the first place. He committed to MSU first. In the end it turned out to be a wash. The silver lining is he never played and it opens up a new scholarship.

No, you're right. I agree with ya. You just hate to see it. I'm sure he came here thinking he would have a chance to play right away.

Eventually the powers that be will need to do something prohibiting players from entering the portal, or announcing that they'll enter the portal, mid-season. The transfer portal is the equivalent of free agency in pro ball and you don't see someone become a free agent mid-season. Players rarely even announce their free agency until after the season. There are trades during the season but that includes some kind of compensation for the teams.

Notice who he DIDN'T specifically thank? Yup, you guessed it -- Albin. Tell me again that Tim Albin isn't the reason for us being 1-7? I'll wait.

He's gotta figure why waste another year of eligibility on what will undoubtedly be another losing season next year. Can't blame him. We'll probably see a lot more before the season's out.

I've been a big of Buckner's since the first time he touched a ball in an Ohio uniform. It's too bad it hasn't worked out. I wish him the very best in his career and in life.

This is why Albin needs to go now . . . not later. Showing we are serious about getting the train back on the track would go a long way toward keeping some of these guys in the portal. If the AD isn't paying attention, she needs to go to. This is getting more than a little ridiculous.

Agree 100%.

Firing Albin not only lets the guys in the portal know that O.U. is serious about its football program, it puts us a bit ahead of the game in pursuing a new coach and staff.

People used to say Schaus kept a list of potentially available coaches.
I would hope the current AD had the foresight to do the same.

Although, given her job performance to date, foresight does not appear to be one of her strengths.

Then again, I'm having a hard time trying to identify any strengths as AD.

Given the fact that, from the beginning of the season, it appeared that the football team could be, and now is, a disaster, I would think she'd be leading
the charge to fire Albin and have a list of people to call, ready to go.

Hooks, Maxwell, and Michler were even better than these guys and nobody was freaking out about Solich. The transfer portal is crazy and everyone is looking for an opportunity with immediate eligibility.

Buckner is leaving because Walton, Odom and Cox are ahead of him and he can't beat him out for a spot. So how the hell is this an Albin problem? He's one spot away from not making the two deep and sees the writing on the wall.

Once again, Ohio fans have been spared what nearly everyone else has had to deal with for a few years now. Take a look at what the rest of the MAC lost this past year alone lost in transfers, then compare it to Ohio. Some schools were hit with ridiculous numbers of defections. This is a drop in the bucket compared to them. Unfortunately, the high volume of transfers is a common theme for almost every team in the country. This isn't a need to panic whatsoever.

Nor is being 1-7 and losing to a FCS school.

Rock on, brother!

Not all transfers are social misfits or academic wash-outs. Some have legit reasons for wanting to move on. You have to offer the correct guys. Just like you wouldn't want to offer a high school kid that got caught with a bag of crack or one who can't pass basic standard classes without a struggle.

Buckner's career stats are 32-551 / 3 TDs with his career high in week 1 this year where he was 7-102.

Odoms gone next year, so is the double Luehrman TE set which has reduced receiver touches; a throwing QB will be behind center - all which lends the idea that Buckner would have gotten game time next year.

Is missing the cut really the issue here? Might it have something to do with Albin & the OC's passion to call plays using every skilled player (including the QB) in the slot/wideout position role except for the actual slot/wideout ? - only for that trickery to result in yet another team loss?? Or, could it be that the environment created by the current leadership makes it more desirable to jump into the unknown rather than stay in the known?

Buckner has TWO YEARS of eligibility left coupled with the blessing of his WR coach. Yet, he's willing to give it up to enter the portal where there is no guarantee that he'll even get picked up by another team - let alone play.

How the hell is this NOT an Albin problem ??

Buckner is good. He was totally underutilized. He’s a slot receiver. He’s also a Central Ohio kid. This staff scares me beyond belief between on field player decisions and recruiting. He was playing mostly outside. They have little dynamic offensive players and he was one of them.

It's at 247 Sports. I googled "college football transfer portal 2022" to find the current one.

To add to your thoughts, I believe, at least at one time, he was one of our fastest players. Just one example I know, but I recall him playing some three years ago against Virginia in Nashville and he played pretty well (I looked it up and he had two receptions for 44 yards). While I don’t pretend to know everything going on with his situation, at least “on the surface”, in his case, I’ve often wondered how he goes from playing against an ACC team as a younger player to hardly sniffing the field now.

Not like he was sniffing the field much under Solich.

That’s true. Wondered the same thing under Frank too.

Who doesn't dream about playing for a 1-11 team with a mentally challenged coach?
