This game, IMHO, will make or break the season. Getting off to a wining start I think will pump some new blood into the program and could lead to a growing sense of confidence that will continue throughout the season. Lose this game, and it could be 0-12.

From my perspective we need to be 2-2 after the OOC games if we have any chance of a winning season.

I don't think 0-12 is likely, but ten losses could be a possibility (I have more confidence that we'll beat Fordham than I had about Duquesne last season). But yeah, this game will certainly set the tone for at least the first half of the season. There isn't a whole lot of wiggle room with seven bowl teams from last year on the schedule.

Huge, important game for us. I will be there, screaming and making noise. Hope we can be loud and proud Saturday! Will be heavily promoting it up until then.

That might give FAU an advantage next week. They'll have a game under their belts and the adage is that teams improve most from Week 1 to Week 2, or in their case Week 0 to Week 1. That, of course, assumes that they don't lose any key players tonight.

Won’t be shocked in the least if the game follows suit to the romp FAU is on right now over another green and white team.

My long-term confidence in the coaching staff is it very high.

They certainly know how to make in-game adjustments. Gave up an easy TD on Charlotte's first drive, then shut them down until the game was out of hand. Making positive in-game adjustments was something our coaching staff had trouble with last year.

FAU has something that has given us fits through the years: quickness on offense and defense. Can't teach that.

They said at the start of the game that both coaches were concerned about their defense but not their offense. I'd say Charlotte should be worrying about their offense, too.

I watched the game too. My take was that we can score on these guys, at least if previous BA scouting reports about some of our incoming and returning offensive talent is correct. But, I'm wondering if our defense, even with the new coaches and new sets, will be up to the task of stoping their passing game, especially the short game to the sidelines. I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, but I would not bank next week's lunch money on it.

Very impressed with the FAU team speed. Correct you don’t coach speed. This will be a tough opener. It feels like to have a really successful season they need to get this win. FAU was fast and physical.
Nowinsky plays almost exclusively single high safety and that could help with the short stuff but could also leave you susceptible to over the top shots. N’Kosi Perry is an experienced dude and can run. They have to keep him in the pocket.
I will say watching the scrimmage last week there were several areas that I felt looked better than last season. The defensive line and linebackers for one. The DB’s were actually making plays on the ball instead of sitting back in cover 4. The scheme is different. I’m optimistic.
Offensively the line was actually healthy minus Danneker. When was the last time that was the case? WR’s seemed talented and bigger than usual and for all of the criticism Kurtis gets the dude throws laser beams.
I have no clue what to really expect but I’m sure FAU isn’t’ making it easy based on last night.

FAU looked better than I thought and I predicated they would beat Charlotte. They're a good team. I'm worried we might get crushed.

Charlotte is a bad team. I'm surprised FAU was only a 7 point favorite in that game. FAU also stomped Charlotte last year 38-9, so yeah.

FAU is only a 3 point favorite next week. I have a feeling that number will go up. Praying that we don't get blown out for the sake of the season and fans. A 1-3 start will lead to even lower attendance weekday games lol

As a fan of the Bobcats I am willing to be open to closing the books on last year and giving the staff a fresh start BUT with a short chain.

OHIO cannot control the degree of excellence their opponents bring to the field on game day. If Florida Atlantic beats the 'Cats because they have superior talent then bully for Florida Atlantic.

What we need to see from this game is extremely sound fundamentals of making first contact tackles and swarming to the ball. We need to see an offense that is well organized, free of but minor confusion and appears confident. We need to see competence in protecting the QB and minimizing the effects of surprise defenses that may be thrown against us. The special teams must be competent with no unforced errors.

Play sound fundamental football and let the better team win. Take the teaching moments as opportunities and improve from week one to week two in all categories and all individuals; players, coaches and bench jocks, all.

Going into PSU and ISU games the goal should be to continue to fundamentally improve, sharper and crisper execution of the offensive and defensive game plan. Again, letting the better teams win if they are truly better but an appearance of the Bobcats as being ready for the Kent State game and the MAC beyond.

If a team can look good and lose to superior talent that should give us hope that the program is headed in a better direction.

Go Bobcats, clip the Owls!

Also, from the coaching staff we need to see some fresh thinking on offense and defense. No more plain vanilla offensive sets and plays that were so predictable last year. Let's see some motion, some misdirection and some sweeps. The defense needs to blitz more, pressure the opponent's QB more and cause more turnovers. They also need to stop the opposition on third down better (43.7%, 113th in D1A last year). Having defenders play more than five yards off the line didn't help there.

You are apparently aren't into hyperbolic satire. However, the basic point is that losing this game could set a bad tone for the rest of the season. I think it's an extremely important game.

I agree, especially with the tone for the rest of the season.

2-2 vs 1-3 (hopefully beating an FCS team) going into MAC play is very different.
