Our local paper has an AP article by Michael Marot previewing the MAC.
(Sorry it won't link)

He feels Northern Illinois is a favorite to repeat.

Miami and Kent could challenge them and Miami should win the East.

The only mention of Ohio is about OCC games.
"Ohio travels to Penn State".

A terrible MAC preview article, in my opinion.

That makes sense. We really don't deserve any recognition. In the same token, it is sometimes ok to be completely underestimated. We beat Miami last year and should have beaten Kant. I feel like if our defense plays like it should (linemen sacking and linebackers making their reads) our offense will be decent enough to win a game 21-17 on average.

This looks like the article: https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-mac-nort...

Probably the only reason Ohio is mentioned at all is that the writer is a Bobcat (1989). He works for the AP and lives in Greenwood, Indiana according to his LinkedIn page.

Ya know your in a strong division when two of the six teams haven't won a conference championship of half a century.

I'm perfectly fine with being underestimated. Time to prove some people wrong!

The silver lining of being underrated is that sometimes an underrated team in the MAC goes on to win the whole thing.

Not saying that's us this year, though. Sadly we probably quite bad.

Excellent point. More often than not the designated "it team," does not win the MAC. In fact, there have been years when a team rated near the bottom in preseason rankings actually won the whole thing. Just saying . . .

This is one thing that makes the MAC more interesting than the power conferences. If you go back to the 1990s, there were a few teams that were dominant, but in the last fifteen years, there have been a few teams that were much worse than everyone else, but rarely a team that was way better than everyone else.
