A Vandy football player tried to sell his cell phone on the Internet. He arranged to meet a prospective buyer at a Chili's where, he said, his cell phone was stolen. He later found the stolen cell phone for sale on the same website. (Stupidity Level One) He set up a fake account and arranged to meet the seller at a Target. (Apropos.) He convinced two other football players to come with him (Stupidity Level Two) and they brought a pellet gun (Stupidity Level Three). They approached the seller's car with pellet gun drawn. (Stupidity Level Four) One guy in the seller's car opened fire with a real pistol and another guy in the car fired a shotgun. The player who originally owned the cell phone was unhurt, but the two guys he brought along were wounded, tho not critically.

I always thought Vandy was supposed to be some kind of brainiac school but after this and the rape convictions against three of the four former football players charged in the case, I'm beginning to wonder.

Smart guys do stupid stuff too outside of their realm. That being said, Vandy is in the SEC.

Yeah, it's much safer to commit home invasions in the MAC.

Lot of former Bobcat coaches, GAs, and players on staff down there. Hope it works out for them.

And for those players involved and others watching, hopefully lesson was learned. Could have been a lot worse(fatality) in that situation for a stupid phone.

Reminds me of a comment that an OHIO assistant coach made to my wife about one of her students, a football player, who the coach said was not too smart, even for a football player. After flunking my wife's class he would have been ineligible for the fall, except that he went to summer school to regain eligibility. That being said she did have some football players who were good students. She particularly remembers Taj Henley and Tyler Russ as good, hardworking students.
