BG upsets Miami. Kent State up 21-0 on Toledo. UConn beating Ball State.

MACTION in November is setting up to be really crazy!

I'll say it right now, with 3 qtrs left to play, UT will come back and take the lead v. KSU.

Nailed it.

Got what we wanted this week. (Fiami/Kent St loss)

Cheer for Kent State to beat Buffs in the future. (just in case)

And win out!

I think Im the only one who picked them to go to the MAC Championship and win it (vs. Northern Illinois). But Im not sure how NIU gets there if we need to win out. In order to stop Toledo, you have to ground it out and keep their electric QB Flinn off the field.

You weren't the "only" one to call it. We're in select company though.

Kent State led 28-7....and lost 52-31....awful. They're now looking up at Ohio in the standings.

What this means at this point is Ohio has defeated the weakest two teams in the MAC in Akron and WMU while losing to a 2-5 Kent St team. it makes me fairly skeptical that Ohio will run the table. NIU won big today. Ball State on the road has the makings of a trap game. On the other side Miami didn't look too good and TA won against them last year. Buffalo's MAC wins against EMU, Miami and BG aren't particularly impressive either.

Buffalo does have to play Toledo next week and if they lose that then go on to lose to Ohio the Cats can afford 1 other stumble on the schedule (NIU, BSU, BGSU, Miami) and still win the MAC East. Kent has the tie breaker over Ohio but they would need to run the table themselves to avoid a 3rd MAC loss. 4-1 with a win over Buffalo should take the East.

Talk about getting ahead of yourselves! Take them one week at a time. I will take a win next week against northern Illinois first.

A few of OUr fans on here (3, maybe 4?) threw out Scott Frost's name. But BTC will be sure to keep this rash suggestion alive through the next few months. Maybe longer.

Yep, it was good win today, and I can see the possibility of wining the MAC East, but I'm fearful of NIU now that Lombardi is back. They are an entirely different team when he's at the helm. I watched the Vanderbilt game. NIU had a two TD lead and looked like they were going to cruise to a win; then Lombardi got hurt, and their offense sputtered and they lost the game by multiple TDs. Without Lombardi I think OHIO rolls in this one. With him, we'll be underdogs. We can still win but will need to play a near-perfect game and cause turnovers like we did today. Go OHIO!

Lombardi played today, but he was nowhere near fully healthy. He had a relatively decent stat line but he was laboring out there at times. He's at his best when he can also run and he didn't (can't) do that right now. It also sounds like Hampton, the backup QB who has been playing in Lombardi's absence, is now likely out for the year with an injury from last week. So it looks like NIU is going to nurse their QB's to the finish line.

Well, let's hope he's not fully healthy until the week after next! Thanks for the scouting report.

NIU's run game is 48th and run defense is 49th scares me somewhat going into next week. They will in customary Ohio fashion have to be outscored through the air I think to get it done. Lombardi could get hurt again and that would help.

The MAC is a very, very balanced conference, and almost any team can beat almost any other team on any given week. Toledo is clearly the class of the conference, and has to be the favorite to win the MACC, while Akron may go winless in conference games. The other ten teams are remarkably even.

Could Ohio win out, and win the East? Absolutely. Could they lose out? That's also possible. The team just needs to keep improving, and keep winning one game at a time.

Normally I don't agree with this advice but its particularly difficult this year to gage relative strength of MAC opponents. I'd like to think of Bowling Green as a bad team but they defeated Miami today. I'd like to think of Ball State as a good MAC team because they are 4-3 but they lost to Western Michigan, won against NIU when they were down and have a victory over CMU which according to today was only a score better than Akron. Central competed well against Oklahoma State to start the season. Best to just count each win as it rolls in and take nothing for granted.

The players have to take it one game at a time. We can speculate all we want.

There should be at least a couple more wins on the schedule somewhere out of the 5 remaining games. 2-3 down the stretch the team still finishes 6-6 and finds a bowl game. To win the division however every week counts. Confidence might count for something here too. OCF said this week he thought winning against WMU could be a confidence builder. I definitely reject the hypothesis that Ohio has a 50/50 chance of losing out that's been on this board since the Fordham game.

I figure that Ohio has about a 50% chance in each remaining game. That means that the expected average is now about 6.5 wins. Based on that, the odds of ending up:
4-8: 3.1%
5-7: 15.6%
6-6: 31.3%
7-5: 31.3%
8-4: 15.6%
9-3: 3.1%

If Ohio goes 9-3, they will win the MAC East. If they go 8-4, they might win it, depending on other games. They probably need to beat Buffalo to win at 8-4, so I would guesstimate that Ohio has about a 14% chance of winning the East at this point.
