We're only two weeks out and the schedule still shows TBA. Has anyone heard any rumors as to what time it starts? I'm traveling from out of state for this one and it would be helpful to know.

Usually, OUr Saturday home games that are a webstream broadcast that aren't Labor Day weekend are 2:00 p.m. kickoffs. ESPNU, CBSSN, etc. usually pick another time if they pick a game up. This time is still reserved for TV to possibly set. The FCS game is never picked up by TV so it will very probably be a ESPN3 or ESPN+ game and if that pattern and OU's past patterns hold then I think that odds are good on this being a 2:00 kickoff but we don't know for sure as of yet.

The internet television gods patiently await your sacrifice of flesh and blood. Thou shalt not make requests before submitting thyself before the holy altar, in a display of humility and subservience. you are weak and unworthy. You will do thy bidding, then accept as reward a mere pittance of 3-5 days notice on your kickoff times. It is so written.

At the moment, 48 games that day still haven't had game times announced, including 19 involving ranked teams.

100% Agreed. ESPNism at its finest.

It's particularly galling for games like Ohio's, where you know it'll be on ESPN+, maybe ESPN3, instead of a mothership channel. ABC has laid claim to Wisc-O$U, and that could be the hangup for the others; we're waiting to find out if it'll be prime time or a 3:30 game. CBSSN has chosen its lineup and the ESPN motherships won't want a MAC-1AA game when their are so many games available involving ranked or nearly-ranked teams, so that leaves just the streaming service or a cable system channel (ESPN3) for us. They're a lot more flexible for scheduling, so the wait for a start time doesn't seem necessary.

I agree, and I don’t understand why for an ESPN+ or ESPN3 game the host school can’t choose the time they want. If that had been the case, I’m sure we would not have had a 6:00 start for the FAU game. Why does ESPN really give a flying fig when these games are scheduled. I don’t their revenue really is any different with say, a 3:30 start versus a 6:00 kickoff with any ESPN+ game. I must be missing something.

Was the FAU starting time somewhat dictated by it being Band Day? Could they have wanted a later start so that the HS bands could play at their games on Friday night then have time for Band Camp on Saturday and still get home at a decent hour on Saturday night? Just wondering.

That's certainly possible. But, I've seen other strange starting times for ESPN+ games that seem to indicate the World Wide Leader set the times and not OHIO. But, in this case, maybe we did have some input for the reason you cited.

With ESPN selling game inventory to NFL Network -- and oh by the way I bet they didn't see interest in Marshall next week to be a thing -- I suppose it's an additional layer before a game time can be set, no matter how middling a game is.

It only adds to the narrative that butts in seats are an afterthought.

I assure you Band Day had zero impact on game starting time.

We played night games in week 1 sometimes before streaming was a thing. I think people have more time Labor Day weekend and the first week of September is sometimes close to 90 degrees on some days. I think that's all there is to it. Like I said, this game will very probably be a webstream and an 2:00 start if past patterns hold but we will find out for sure in the next couple of days.

Apparently two games next week still don't have start times: GaTech-UCF and Indiana-Cincy. ESPN shows two others (Arizona-Cal and UCLA-Colorado) but CBS has times for those.

Now that this has passed, how about a starting time for the Oct. 22 home game v. NIU? Still too soon to know this?

Unfortunately, we might not know until Monday or even Tuesday. You might see one of the sports channels pick up this game. They often pick up MAC games even if they aren't always the most intriguing ones. NIU has been disappointing. Probably, that's mostly because they have missed Lombardi who might be back against Ohio. I'd expect a webstream broadcast and a 2:00 kickoff again but I wouldn't stake my life on it.

It should be Monday. All TV times and channels are announced 12 days out. We don't find out until that day, either.
