What does a successful season look like to you?

For me, we have to be bowl-eligible. That would at least mean doubling our win total and aligns us with the worst of the Solich era (debut season excluded) when the program was still stable. Six wins and I'd be willing to see where the upward trend leads.

The moment we suffer seven losses in the regular season, I would expect that Julie moves on.

EDIT: Forgot that 2008 was bad, but my memory is that we got smoked out by injury bad luck.

Seems reasonable enough to me. Bowl eligibility should absolutely be the bare minimum expectation for any head coach that comes here moving forward.

2008 was a huge turnover year as well. cost us an all-time shocker against OSU, and CMU the following week. T3 got hurt against osu. that team could easily have won 8 or 9.

Just show me something trending in an upward direction. I don't think it necessarily has to be a bowl, but there needs to be some proof of concept that things are working and getting out of the malaise.

I'd like to hope that Cromer is already in the process of finding a replacement for Coach A. Everybody can see the green and white writing on the walls.

5-7 could keep Coach A's job (we are the Ohio Team that is in the MAC).

6-6 or 6-7 I'd vote to keep him another year.

Her first call should be to Scott Frost.

It's not so much THAT we lost nine games last year, it was the bumbling and stumbling through the season that was hard to take. We couldn't get BACK to our own one yard line three times out of five last season, and even Rogers's record-setting 99-yd TD run against Buffalo was wasted after we blew a 21-0 lead and gave them an extra chance to kick the game-winning FG. (I won't even mention Duquesne.) The best game we played was probably the EMU game. The MOFO game was more a non-loss than a win; if their kicker doesn't miss a PAT, we probably wind up losing after having a 28-0 lead. We even trailed Akron in the 3rd quarter before pulling out a win. But just as the team looked like things were turning around, they backslid vs Toledo and BG. Same old mistakes they were making early in the season.

We're probably going to look bad against Penn St and Iowa St, so anything less than a 28-pt loss there will probably be a miracle. At least keeping it close against FAU in the opener might be the best we can hope for as good as the Owls looked against Charlotte last week. A win against Fordham is a necessity; a loss should mean we have an interim coach and start the national search. If he's still here come October, four wins in the MAC should be the minimum.

With all this in mind, I'd put five wins as a minimum, provided that we don't wind up beating ourselves such as we did last season.

I think he wins six or more games. It seems like this program has potential to perform especially when little is expected. The coaching staff has upgraded in my opinion. Nowinsky, Smith and Hauser all seem like advantageous additions.
I blame some of the bumbling and stumbling last season on the situation. I get that TA has been here forever but to be handed a Division 1 football program in July is less than enviable. It’s also can’t be easy to avoid New Coach Syndrome. It appeared that he did way too much. Enter a handful of accomplished coaches. I think that helps.
It’s my hope that the administration is doing whatever they can to support him and give him a fighting chance. He’s been really cool to me in personal dealings. He was very likable. I’m hoping he turns this around starting Saturday.

Bowl eligible to even think about keeping him. Anything less he should be toast.

I think eight or more wins will get him a long term contract, and seven wins might. At the other extreme, four or less wins and he will be gone. The tough call is if he ends up with five to six wins, and then you have to start looking at style points, and asking questions like "Did the team improve as the year progressed?".

You just never know what will happen with a new coach. Sometimes things get better, sometimes they get worse. As a recent unexpected example, consider Thomas Hammock at NIU. Coming off the good teams of Rod Carey and Dave Doeren, his first season of 5-7 didn't look good, and his 0-6 the second year was horrible by any measure. Expectations were low, and I'm sure NIU fans were hoping he would be fired. Instead, he started last year with an upset win over Georgia Tech, and then went on to win a MACC, so he has some job security now.

As far as I am concerned, almost any number of wins, from 2-10, is possible this year, and whatever happens will determine what happens to Albin and his staff.

I don't think anybody is gonna win twice with Nebraska's discards.

If Tim is to keep his job a winning season will be necessary.
Coach O is still available, similar situation to Solich a few years back.

I watched Tim's new conference today and saw the same Tim, nervous, always mentioning that he's excited over and over, that just shows he doesn't know what to say when answering questions.

Agree. Bowl eligible, so six wins. which probably means 2-2 OOC and 4-4 in conference OR 1-3 and 5-3. That to me makes this Saturday a real telltale sign of his fate. we lose and he’s looking at having to go 5-3 in conference (we go 0-4 OOC he’s calling a moving van). we go 1-3 and 4-4 he’s going to need some very serious style points in conference losses and no blowouts in conference to stay on.

I'll bet he could get us to the MACC and halftime lead of 28-0 and lose on a last second field goal!

I could care less how he answers questions if he’s winning the MAC. Let’s not act like Frank was always media savvy. He beats FAU and he’s off to a great start.

I don’t care if this guy goes undefeated. I would never, ever give him a long term contract. Where’s he going to go?if he is on anything beyond a two year deal it’s a major mistake.

A winning record with that caveat that if we're 6-6 and have a good MAC season and win the East, that should save him.

I'll echo what others had said - he was dealt a short start with Solich stepping down in July. However it was the bumbling and stumbling and HOW we lost last year that made me a total non-believer in Albin.

We'll see. I could see us going 2-10. But it is the MAC. Sometimes when you're least expecting it, a team picked near the bottom wins the whole thing.

I really don't get the point of all this. It's the beginning of a new season.

Who gives a shit if he is a hotshot on camera? Frank was a terrible interview.

Why so much animosity? Players seem to like Albin -- doesn't that count for something?

Coach O was given a $6 million annual salary and is owed somewhere around $17 million from his buy out. I'm trying to find a reason he would ever consider a job in the MAC?

Albin is the hand-picked successor to the guy for whom the field was just named. Out of respect I’ll hold off on commenting.
