I know we've lost a few recently to injury (Bunner) and transfer (Davis)....but we still have 10-15 players who'll be fighting for starts and depth.

Four players seem to have the upper hand as starters:

Flading-Tackle
Strum-Tackle

Herman-Guard
Allen-Center

Any conjecture on the other starter....maybe a right guard type?

I think right guard is the unknown at this point. I can see Carlotta, Flowers and maybe Laudermilch in the mix. Am I leaving anyone out?Other than that I agree with all four of your other guesses.

Somewhere it was said that we need to be a lot tougher on the line.  I think it was one of the season preview mags and in reference to the O-line.

Well, it's true for both the O-line and the D-line.  We need to kick arse and be scaring people right at scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The 3 you mentioned have some pt......and I wonder if  315 # redshirt freshman Sam Johnson might get a look....or even the tackles McGrath and Lechner......Lechner at about 330 would be one of Monroes "scary" guards.  Desmond Kenner at 280 was also listed as an o-lineman last year.

If the info on some of these posts is correct, there isn't going to be as much depth on the O-line as we all anticipated.  I'm more worried about guys to open up holes than I am guys to run thru them!

I think we are fine at tackle postion with Strum and Flading and Lechner and Mcgrath backing them up both look promising.. i think Britain was 3rd center behind Allen and Alex Mitchell .. Herman was my favorite linemen last year and i think he wil be great with Flowers backing him up .. tough losing Pinder and Davis both played last year and i think Pinder would of started this year from what i saw in spring game .. so now i think it will be a good competion between carlotta and laudermilch.. Bad thing/ good thing is we will probaly see one or two of the incoming freshmen play a little if someone goes down.. and every year there is.. especially at oline

Are there any walk ons that could play this year ? i belive Mcgrath came as a walkon last year and earned a scholarship..

From the spring practice roster.....probably nothing more than practice fodder:

69  Kendrick Davis OL 6-3 268 FR Cincinnati, Ohio Mason

71  JD Bales OL 6-5 307 SO Beavercreek, Ohio Beavercreek

72  George Batsakes OL 6-6 333 SR Cincinnati, Ohio Oak Hills

I believe Mr. Laudermilch was 1st on the depth chart when he was injured. I am still confident in the athletes discussed above. I am counting on coach putting his best five out there. I would not be suprised to see some changes for that to happen.

Taking the information above, and making a composite:

LT - AJ Strum Jr., Jon Lechner R-Fr
LG - Vince Carlotta So., Dustin Laudermilch Jr.
C - Skyler Allen So., Alex Mitchell R-Jr.
LG - Eric Herman So., John Flowers Jr.
RT - Joe Flading Jr., Ryan McGrath R-Fr.

Looks pretty solid to me, even with these guys missing:
James Davis - LG, Moved closer to home
Kadre Pinder - RG, grades
Cole Bunner - RT, injuries
Matt Britain - C, Legal Issues, probably will be suspended at least part of season

Other offensive linemen not listed above:

John Prior - XFER will sit out 2010
George Batsakes - Sr walkon
JD Bales - R. So walkon
Sam Johnson - R-Fr
Mark Smith - Incoming Freshman
Bryce Dietz - Incoming Freshman
Kendrick Davis - R.Fr. walkon
Christian Addis - So. walkon

Here are the numbers of snaps each of the linemen took last year:
White (gone) -815
Rodgers (gone) - 813
Flading (Jr) - 624
Herman (So) - 534
Strum (Jr) - 500
Bunner (gone) - 213
Carlotta (So) - 198
Pinder (gone) - 186
Flowers Jr) - 110
Laundermilch (Jr) - 76
Davis (gone) - 65
Allen (So) - 17
Mitchell (Jr) - 3

Yes, the line probably would have been better with guys like Pinder, Bunner, and Davis, but there are still a lot of good players left, and a lot of experience back. At left tackle you have the returning starter at LG moved over, plus a redshirted guy in Lechner that was probably the top-rated recruit in last year's class. As LG you have Carlotta and Laudermilch, both of whom were starters for part of the year last year. Laudermilch has had some injury issues, and hopefully he's healthy. At RG you return the top two, Herman and Flowers. At RT you return the starter, Flading. The only spot with inexperience is Center, but even there you return both of last year's backups, Allen and Mitchell.

Note one other thing about this group. There is not a Senior to be seen except for walkon Batsakes. However good the 2010 line is, the 2011 line will be that much better.

How many O-linemen usually travel? becaause we do look good for starters and backup but definitly are short now and its not even camp yet. hopefully some of these unknown players really step up!

Sorry to hear about Britain, had some injury problems last year but thought he'd have a chance.  O-Line still has some young talent that should be able to be effective.
