That is impressive. That is something to shoot for. Miami, even at its worst, will no doubt sell out .

I do wonder what Toledo had to do to get that agreement. They may be giving up almost all of the money from both the home and away games, but I bet whatever they did to swing that deal will be more than worth it.

How many does FATMAN stadium hold?  How many live within 35 miles of Toledo?  How much can/will they charge per game ticket?

It's a great get for Rocket but I can't think that our situation is similar.

Maybe after this year.

Basically 25,000, but I believe it's expandable up into the mid 30s.

FWIW, FATMAN has now joined the Toledo broadcasting team...

The official capacity is listed as 26,248, but the record crowd was 36,852 against Navy in 2001. I'm not exactly sure how they fit an extra 10,000+ but I'm sure Peden couldn't be stretched to that extreme, probably only a few thousand tops over the 24,000 capacity so that would put it 10,000 shy of what Toledo has smashed into the Glass Bowl. Definitely a big difference.

Of course it also helps like suggested before that Toledo is a 300,000 person city with a MSA of 672,000, all of them easily within 35 miles of Toledo. I'm pretty sure there are many thousands more at least that close not included in the MSA. I wouldn't doubt there are close to 1 million people within 35 miles of UT so that is a lot of exposure, certainly a lot more than OU could offer unfortunately.

Any information about the Wyoming / Texas series that concludes this year?  I believe that it is only a 2 game series with Texas going to Wyoming last year, so this seems like the contracts would be similar.

The difference with Texas/Wyoming is that Texas got hung out to dry at the last second by Arkansas canceling their deal and Mack Brown wanting to play a road game no matter who it was against. This is much different in my eyes in that this is set years in advance with no real idea what either team will look like at the time.

Playing an inflated B-ball schedule has destroyed Miami basketball attendance.  While they seem to compete yearly in the MAC…their fans no longer turn out to see a habitual sub 500 team.  If Toledo continues to lose 3 of their fist 5 football games…I don’t see this working for them either.  Getting our brains beat in the first 3 games each year…will not build a program.  Winning more than one MAC title every 50 years is a good place to start.

Reminiscent of when Marshall signed the deal for a home game with Tennessee and VT signed to play in Athens.  Unfortunately contracts mean little these days. 

My first thought was smart move for Toledo to play the first game at home.

Just for the record UT has beaten Kansas and Colorado at home in recent years.   The latter (originally scheduled for Oxford, of all places) was a blowout, despite some late game TDs by UC to close the gap.  The former was dubbed by our very own Certified Pigskin Analyst as the Fat Bowl (FATMAN v. FATTERMAN).  A number of years ago (about a decade ago, I think) UT blew out Minnesota at home.  Overall, they have a pretty good record in marquee games in the Glass Bowl.  BTW, some say that having all that extra weight in one spot put the earth's rotation out of balance and is responsible for global warming summers and too much snow in the winter.

Two losses for the Rockets. Early season games will for certain result in injuries to key players. I am sure Kirby Hocutt offerred this to Ohio and I am glad we passed!

 Two PROBABLE loses for UT, and I would like to know your source for Hodoyoucut offering OHIO this deal.  I personally won't believe that unless someone has actual facts to back it up.

Actually this is not the first series that UT and Miami of FL have played.  Anyone remember Miami being on Ohio's schedule at one time only to be dropped?

Well, my sources are primarily at VT, and I can tell you they were NOT happy about the move when it happened.  The alumni office there was not happy either, because they had to reshuffle planned Ohio alumni events.  To them it certainly appeared that Hocutt was the driving force.  I suspect that they were right.  In terms of the Northwestern game I'm going more on gut feeling in terms of Hocutt's culpability, but I do know that the present administration would have handled that situation entirely differently.  If you want details on that, I can PM you.

This is a good add for Toledo but we have yet to see the MAC sign a true 80,000 seat Gladiator type of a program to a home-home deal. Miami brings a team like Toledo in and its only going to draw 40,000 it doesn't make sense to do the payday thing. Randy Shannon should have Miami rolling by 2015-2016 if recruiting is any indicator. Miami is projected to win the ACC next year in year 4 of Shannon after improving from 5, 7, to 9 wins over his first 3 years.

At little more detail on the 1-1 deal between the 'Canes and Rockettes.  Reading this article reminded me that UT also beat Pitt at home -- a few years before Ohio did the same thing.  I think, from memory, that Pitt is 0-2 against MAC teams on the road, and something like 12-1 at home.  Norhing like home cooking!

OCF:  The reason VT was not happy (that is a mild statement), is that they (VT) found out through the back door that we were "Selling" our home game to the group that owns and operates the event management of M&T Bank Stadium (since named) and were going to recoup the lionshare of the revenue in this deal.  VT was not willing to go along with our plan.  Ryan is also on to much more truth here then you want to admit OCF.

JCW, that's not the whole reason that VT was angry with us.  We managed to tick off a whole lot of folks at VT for a variety of reasons.  

Now, tell me, what football coach in his right mind would prefer to play a team like VT (or even Northwestern) on the road versus at home?  He might be convinced that it was good for the program to go on the road for the money, but to impy that he preferred to play them on the road is simply ludicrous in the extreme.   And, who, my dear man, was it that did the convincing?

Toledo historically has been the MAC's best football program. They have one of the MAC's largest football stadiums and are in a decent sized market with local tv and radio.  Toledo have gotten big TV games and big named teams to play in the Glass bowl.  Toledo has had a winning tradition in football much longer than Ohio.  They have drawn better over a longer period of time with attendance than Ohio. They beat Michigan and they are the only MAC team that can say that.  Toledo likely gets this game on TV on ESPN.  This is also a matchup of two schools trying to cleanup their tarnished programs.  This is the kind of game that top MAC programs should win, but often have come up short.
