I don't understand the scoreboard "covering" the M - looks awkward.

I think I understand.  To me, it appears that the video will be used for the National Anthem, some opening video package, and possibly instant replays.  When those are not being shown, they possibly could put this logo

on the scoreboard.  It's seems like an great idea at first, but I can see at least 2 potential flaws.

First, the video display itself does not look as if it takes up the full screen from left to right. For instance, the American flag listed above is not spread all the way across.

What happens when the color begins to fade?

The Herd better hope that you can see the screen from extreme angles as well, or else it will not look good on them (the designer or designers). That seems to be a flaw with these large screens. Unless they are plasma based, you can only see them from a limited field of view.

Yes, its supposed to be used for instant replays, national anthem, team entrance etc. The video will take up the full screen, I think this picure was taken during testing sessions. Looking at it from extreme angles looked fine to me the other day. Matter of fact I was taken back on how bright it looked in the middle of the day. The scoreboard on the building is finished.

The other new scoreboard at the other end is not quite done. Its much bigger than the one on the Shewey building and is supposed to be finished up sometime this week. When they arent showing replays, conference scores etc. its filled in Kelly Green to match the 'M" that is trimmed in. I really looks good lit up.

It's an LED video board with HD replay capabilities. We'll only have HD replay when ESPN and CBS College Sports are broadcasting the games for the time being though. The Shewey Building video board(704 sq. ft) is twice the size of the video board in the old south endzone scoreboard. The new south endzone video board(1,372 sq. ft) is slightly larger than the entire old scoreboard. We're adding a new audio system as well.

Jughead, you're close. From what I've read so far the board will be able to digitally "fill in" the remainder of the Block M while it's in standby mode. But it will look like the block M I use for my avatar.
