I think this is a game that Wofford fans think they can win.

Wofford is in the best non-BCS conference, along teams like Appalachian State. Many of the teams in the Southern conference would be competitive in the MAC, so this is no pushover. There are some weak FCS schools out there, but Wofford is not one of them.

While I think Wofford is a solid team, I don't think they will be competitive. I  think that this will be Solich's best Ohio team yet, though I expect the 2011 team to be even better. The defenses the last few years have been solid, and this one will be, too. The excellent defensive line with be able to control the line of scrimmage, and the defense has speed and athleticism throughout. They will get some turnovers, but also will keep Wofford in difficult down situations and won't need to rely on turnovers for stops.

Ohio offenses under Solich have been adequate, but never explosive. I can't remember any years when they were able to take the other team out of games early. The 9-5 seasons came as a result of staying competitive, and winning close games, not blowing teams out. This year will be different. I predict that Ohio's offense is going to put up some big numbers. I think we'll see a big jump in offensive production, and some games with 400 yards of total offense or more.

Wofford fans may think they can win this game. I believe they are mistaken, and that it won't take them long to realize it. I think Ohio is both hungry and explosive. I think Ohio takes control of this game in the first half, and a lot of players play for Ohio in the second half, and I think that despite the fact that I think Wofford is actually a good team. I think Wofford is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

LC, you are a very astute observer and we appreciate your thoughtful insights about Ohio football.  That being said, I have to say-not so fast.  If we had depth at offensive line and more depth at running back, I would have to agree with you, but those thing are just not true.  I also believe we will put some points and yardage up on the board at times this year, but I question whether we can move the ball consistently against the better defensive teams (OSU, Temple, Kent State, Marshall) with those shortcomings.  (See the Marshall game last year)  And as good as the defense has been at limiting scoring, most teams seem to be able to get a lot of first downs, and keep the ball moving on our defense.  Turnovers saved our bacon last year, and we will see if that will continue this year.  I am cautiously optimistic about this year's team, but not as glowing with my expectations as most on this board.

This is the most excited I've been about any OHIO football team in the nearly 20yrs I've been a fan. And logic would say that a really good OHIO team should be able to get a win over any Wofford team, even a really good one.

BUT

I can't bring myself to thump my chest and talk about what a blow out its going to be or how bad we're going to beat them by, because at the end of the day, we are Wofford. And if I don't think that they can go out there then beat us then I can't think that we could beat OSU, or Tennessee last year, or OSU the year before that. Or Georgetown 6 months ago. And I root for the Cats because I always believe that we can win, whoever we play.

So out of respect to Karma, I'm just going to say best of luck to Wofford, I hope its a good game, and go OHIO.

Hey, Crabby, it's college football and anything can happen! Enjoy the trip and have a great time. I guarantee you will love the Athens scene. Our fans generally treat guests pretty well. Your seats pretty much suck in the corner of the endzone but it's an unobstructed view. I love the cozy atmosphere of Peden.

coloradobcat66, I agree that I felt even more confident in this prediction before 5 linemen retired, were injured, or had issues with grades, but I still think that the line will turn out to be sufficient. As far as the running back, Solich has sounded pretty positive on the situation, and he knows running backs, so if he's happy, I'll not argue with him. We'll know soon enough if my prediction was right or not.

I do think that next year's team will be even better....

I'm really starting to think we might have a thunder and lightning deal in the works.  It feels like Coach's reserved optimism regarding Boykin is only reserved because he hasn't seen much game time...I for one can't wait to see him hit the field!

Can't overlook anybody. With that said, OHIO will have too much for the Terriers but it will be a good game.

To quote our very own C. Money, deep in his pre-game routine:

Dallas Brown went to high school 10 minutes from where I live in New Castle, DE. Nice to see him score at the end of the game.
