Neither. Just tickets sold. Like they do at every sporting event since people learned to count.

I'm guessing around 19,500 actually in the house.   Both paid attendance and actual attendance was good for this game.

I think that number is legit. There were a few empty spaces near the top of the press box side and the Wofford section was maybe half full. Everything was full though and the amount of people on the hill would have put the place at near full capacity if they were in the stands. My dad and I mentioned how full it was when we were there, and I ended up guessing 23,000. I wasn't far off.

The freshman came out in full force.. Not sure we can keep them tho..... not the most exciting game. A win against osu would go a long way!

How do they account fot hs bands in attendance? They were most.certainly.not countung students walking in

If that was the real number than we must have a 30k seat stadium, there were many sparse areas in the stands, and very little standing crowd.  As for the comment about tickets sold, that is not true, the actual attendance is based on wittiness to the game.

I'd say closer to 17-18,000.

The various high school bands occupied quite a few seats.

If bringing in HS bands doesn't cost the university anything , they should consider doing twice a year for appearances sake. It makes it look like a packed house.

I gave my tickets away because I had to attend a wedding so  on my way home I  decided to do a drive by of the stadium late in the 2nd quarter and was shocked at how full the place was.  What a great turnout.!  I can't wait until next week when I actually get to attend.

I worked in college athletics for several years and the NCAA provided a formula for counting ticket towards your attendance.  All tickets sold at  full face value count toward attendance whether or not the ticket was used.  Discounted tickets that were sold at less than 50% of face value had to be redeemed at the gate to count.   Had I not given my tickets to someone my 4 would have still counted  towards attendance because they were purchased at full value.    Those were the NCAA rules about 10 years ago.  Perhaps things have changed.

That figure looks pretty accurate to me.  There were a ton of people standing in addition to those in the seats and on the hill.  I got there late too and was pleasantly surprised at the number of folks in attendance.  Regardless it was a perfect night to kick off the football season.

I'd certainly believe there were that many tickets sold. The only seats left were in the top corners and there was a good number of people on the hill. I was very pleasantly surprised by the crowd, but as usual, much of the crowd was gone after halftime.

Regardless of count to actual people in the stadium I doubt our practices are a great deal different than many schools.  Comparitively, we show pretty well amongst the conference foes.

How involved was the crowd?  Did that diminish or increase as the game went on?

Did attendance diminish after halftime or at any other point?

For my money, at most games about 80% of the crowd might as well be at a movie for all the noise they make.  The exception was one of the year end games last year (Temple) at which the crowd was terrific, as could be seen/heard even from just watching on TV.

I thought the crowd was engaged , but more in the first half. There was a substantial drop off in attendance after the halftime. One thing that helped add bodies were the numerous local High School bands. That also probably added to the early exodus. It was a beautiful night and lots of people were enjoying themselves in and around Peden pre game.
On one hand I was expecting an offensive circus since we have so many gifted athletes. What I got was a respectable performance with some bright spots. I will be back for Toledo!!!

Re Akron's15,969.  This morning's Beacon Journal includes a multi-column, wide-angle shot of Infocision's entire interior.  Actual fannies in seats?  10,000 - tops.  That stadium has the potential to be the area's next - and most expensive - white elephant.

I think the number was pretty close to about 20,000, although after halftime the student side was looking pretty empty.

What was the announced attendance for Pitt? My comments on attendance for Wofford are based on the faxct that based on the Pitt game you are going to tell me less than 2' difference in that attendance?

I couldn't tell about general audience from the student side but I kept looking back and there was a substantial part of the student section still filled.  Only about 4th quarter did many people start to leave because it was obvious that we were going to win.  I'm hoping more people stay next week for alma mater at the end. 

As for engagement the students were semi-engaged as they were mostly freshmen and didn't know much what to do.  I'm sure next week they'll be a little more engaged and if we continue to win (not counting the osu game but it will help if we do beat them) then we could actually see some real noise hopefully.
