Nova up 14-10 at the half. Temple looks out of sync, only 112 yrds of offense. Pierce has 5 carries for 20yds. meanwhile Nova QB is 15/16.

Pre-mature to break out the over-rate banner but after 2 quarters Temple doesn't like a team living up to the hype.

You realize this is only game one, right?

It doesn't look like a great performance.  Temple lost to 'Nova last season, and ended up being pretty solid...but that loss happened because Temple turned the ball over five times.  Tonight, Temple doesn't have a single turnover and is (was) trailing an FCS team in the fourth qtr.  (Temple's up 22-21 now with 4min left, though, and will probably win.)

I think that is why he said it was pre-mature to be breaking out the overrated label.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Villanova and Temple to be equivalent football teams. They have equivalent athletic department budgets.

Unreasonable or not, Temple had been annointed by the pundentry as THE team, Al Golden was THE coach, Price was THE Heisman winner before a game had been played, and the OHIO victory over Temple at the end of last season treated as a technicality, as if the MAC title had been stolen from them based on a loop-hole. I, for one, hope Temple loses early and loses often, more so in MAC play than in out of conference play

Seeing the outcome of this game makes me wish I would have went. Would have been more exciting than the 31-0 thrashing I saw Delaware put on Div. II West Chester University last night. That being said I would not miss the Ohio vs. Temple game in Philly for the world. I hope some other OHIO fans make the trip out here so we can have a good presence at the game.

exactly. I'm all for rooting for MAC teams in OOC games but the love fest for Temple is too much. They looked aweful for most of that game and were lucky to pull out a win. And they have 1 winning season in 30 years, lose to an FBS team, lose to OHIO, lose their bowl game, but somehow they're the dominant team in the MAC with a Heisman candidate? child please.

Done, it will be the MAC game of the year, and Mrs. DA and I have been planning the drive from Boston and tailgate for months.

Didn't Villanova win the national championship in FCS last year?  Why can't some of you realize that the top level of I-AA is VERY good...You are underrating Villanova IMO.

No doubt that Nova is a good FCS team but I think the point is if Temple is the greatest team in the MAC and Nova is the greatest team in FCS, and they are about equal, than what does that say about the MAC?

Given that Villanova was a considerably better team than North Dakota State and Jacksonville State, teams that defeated BCS teams today... I'd say it says the FBS/FCS designation has a lot more to do with money then it does ability.

Temple was picked higher than both Ole Miss and (especially) Kansas by several preseason prognosticators.  I think that's the reason people are trotting out the "overrated" talk.  Both Gill and Nutt looked devastated by those losses, if that adds any perspective about how coaches feel about FCS competition.  Certainly FCS teams can play football, which is why Ohio's 23-pt win over a competent FCS squad is a good thing.
