The phrase "Life is not fair." was invented by people who quit when things get tough.

The BCS is a disjointed and unfair system. And while, to a certain degree, this is fine. No one should be fooled into thinking Ohio football isn't playing for anything other than trips to Detroit and bowl games vs. 6-6 Conf USA teams.

If this is the way it's going to be...as we wait...and wait...and wait...for the coming of a better day...then those at Ohio who complain that too much money is spent on this venture may be correct in their criticism of the spending on football.

Again, think about Villanova (a thread discussing Nova came up someplace else on this board).

The first reaction was one of shock and dismay from many of the posters here. However, 'nova  gonna force their way into the conversation.

So as we wait...and wait...and wait for equity. Schools like 'nova (who we seem to think little of...especially in regards to their recent success vs. Temple) appear to be on the five year plan in the "getting stuff done" department. Now we can argue the point that they're already a part of the Big East, etc. And these are good complaints and I don't want to dissuade you from using them. However, I would argue that Marquette University may have a better shot at a BCS bowl RIGHT NOW (sans football program) than we do.

And Villanova spend EXACTLY 3 mil more a year on their athletic budget than us (although I would imagine this number will increase)...and have 7,000 less undergrads than us.

But! We will say...."Villanova is in a large media market!" and then I'll provide exhibit A...Mr. Boise State University.

We cannot expect better when everyone else is actually trying to do better.

So...we collective throw our hands in the air and then scream, "Life's not fair!" while another FCS team joins the ranks of the BCS and blows right by our operation built upon the phrase..."Life's not fair!"

Awesome...

I agree the BCS isunfair and rip-off for the MAC schools that mistakenly think they really have a chance to compete day-in and day-out with the big boys.

But I think part of the problem lies with OU too.  Being a bigtime BCS power or trying to be just isn't in OU's DNA.  Never in OU's history has it ever been a bigtime, bigtime football power.  Ever.  In it's best years OU was a powerhouse amongst the smaller schools in periods of the 50's and 60's but we were never amongst the best of the best, the Oklahoma's, Notre Dame's, OSU's, Nebraska's etc. of the world.  Some say our best year may have been 1968 with Cleve Bryant at QB and that may be true.  I say in that year Ohio State under Woody Hayes and Rex Kern, Jack Tatum, etc. would've killed us.

It's an argument for another time, but I believe there are many conditions unique to Ohio's program that precluded it from ever doing what those other  power programs did over the last 40 years.

So then why should we expect to play a big time game if we don't have the right "Conditions" for it.  Because we exist, we deserve a right to play for the national title or in a BCS bowl.  No, we have to earn that right.  Have we?

Also. Medler-I don't advocate quitting anywhere -just being realistic.

The difference with Villinova is they already had a major seat at the table in the Big East for basketball.  Our situation is nothing like theirs in any way shape or form.

I proposed this argument in my previous post, but I then propose my retort again...for effect:

Right now Marquette University may have a better shot at the BCS than we do.

Ho hum...we'll always have Detroit.
