Everyone is talking about Boykin, I notice, and while I liked him too, I was equally impressed with Davidson. Davidson seemed more decisive, and ran much harder than I remember. I thought he looked very good. I think Ohio opens up the playbook, and we see a balanced attack, 50% passing, 50% running. If Toledo loads up on the run, they will get punished through the air, and it they focus on the pass, Ohio chews up yardage on the ground. The net result is an Ohio win, 30-13, with Ohio having 380 yards of offense, and Toledo being held to 230.
I was also very impressed with Davidson. I only believe that Boykin will get more scoring opportunities because I think we will be more likely to use him in the short-yardage situations. I'll be excited to see him put his head down and bowl over some defensive players.
Davidson, on the other hand, will get his scoring opportunities by breaking out for big gains. I hope I'm right, because believing we might actually have something resembling a running game has gotten me pumped up!
