Remember it well at age 14. Dad was OC. Later was 2nd HC for The Herd. Riots in the Spring so seemed like the world was deadly.....

Today, I especially remember Jeff Nathan, the sports editor of The Parthenon, the Marshall student newspaper, of which I was the co-advisor. If interested, you can find out more about Jeff and the scholarship we created in his honor here:

This also is an annual reminder of how the University of Akron tried to capitalize on the Marshall tragedy. They contacted Bill Hess to say, "Hey, since you now don't have an opponent next Saturday and we have an open date, how about seeing how we could match up against a MAC school?"

Hess turned them down flat.

I think many of us remember how Ohio treated that "open date" - creatively and with class.

I was a student on campus and was in attendance for that memorial service at Peden.
I agree that our great university handled that situation with class.
