...that we may have been looking ahead to Ohio State? I realize that the performance was awful last night, but just trying to see if there is some hope that our team really isn't THAT bad, which they aren't to begin with. A little overreaction always happens right after, and the day after a game. I'm looking for a positive perspective, if there is one.

It could be very possible that we were caught looking ahead.  However, given the fact that we kept overlooking the fact that one of our best receivers was not really guarded and that they were heavily blitzing which means we could have been pass happy against them and shredded them, it does not look promising for next week.  But then again I have been wrong many times.

I pray to God that this is the case and they come out next week and at least put up a fight against OSU and then surprise us by sweeping the rest of the season! Looking on the brightside, maybe this horrid loss will serve as motivation to prove that this team is legit.

Was unable to head down to Athens for the Toledo game.....Russ did not paint a pretty picture tuning into the game.

Question - does our punter always punt 'rugby' style? Was kick-off coverage that bad against Toledo?

Any chance Weller gets his kicks into the endzone, or are we looking at giving OSU starting position at their own 40-yard line every time they get the ball this Saturday?

Lastly (and most importantly), it sounds like if Bates is cleared to play Saturday, he may be the starter. Would this assumption be correct?

No, Our punter does not punt rugby style every time.  K.O. coverage was pretty suspect.

Weller is not kicking off this year due to his leg injury, only handling XP/FG

No information on this

Hershey's normal punts seemed much better than the rugby style punts.

I understand the entire concept of the Rugby style punt, allowing better down field coverage by buying time for the kick through the roll out.  However that is one strategy that drives me up a wall every time I see it by any team I see doing it.

Agree; especially when each rugby kick bounced in UT's favor.  The straight away punt looked to be 45+ yards.  How is 40 better?

Yeah, in this game Toledo had some good return men so like John just said the rugby kick was used to give our guys more time to get down field. My guess is we will not be able to use it against OSU.

It has taken me two days to calm TF down after that embarrassment Saturday. I really can’t put into words the disappointment I had walking out of that stadium.
This team was looking anywhere. We aren’t good enough to beat anyone right now. While the D deserved credit, the offense is going need to improve to suck. I was afraid the offensive line was suspect based on what many of you wrote on here. You were all correct. We are in deep here folks. I am not sure how we intend to improve that part of the offense given the fact the season has started already. WOW is this depressing.
Boo – having went thru a shoulder issue back in the day, I feel for the kid. However, he has not recovered! What happened here? Holy crap I could barely watch some of these throws. I agree with others here on Tettleton. If Boo is not healthy, get him ready.

While I am going up this weekend for golf and fun, I am not stepping foot in that dump for this game. Call me a coward but it’s not that. I will be in a throw down before the National Anthem ends. We are in for a beat down. I thought we were beyond the 50-3 days but that is possible if the team from the Toledo game shows up this weekend. Not what I expected at all.

Here's to better days.
