I would give anything for my boys to turn out like this. Them turning into OSU fans is my worst fear (no, not lieterally my worst fear). Any tips you want to give to keep them away from the red kool-aid, let me know.
Here's what I've done. I show my own pride in the green and white.I've given him some good memories. We often go to home games for football and basketball, and, he brings his buddies. He's gone to one MAC championship football game, a bowl game, some MAC hoops tourney games and two NCAA appearances. Road trips are always fun. We keep him stocked in Ohio gear.
As you know from living in central Ohio, OSU athletics is front and center every day. So, everybody is exposed to OSU fandom all the time. There are many things I respect and appreciate about it -- traditions, some outstanding teams and the depth of support fans have for the Buckeyes. If he wanted to be a fan of a team based in his hometown, I think that would be fine. But, he's the kind of kid who doesn't do something just because a lot of other kids are doing it. He is his own man.
So, the advice is simple. Spend time with your boys at Ohio games. Let them know what you love about Ohio University. Make sure they have some Ohio gear to wear. Raise them to be confident in standing up for what they believe in and support. Then, see where it goes.
Go, Ohio!
BTW -- He is up and ready for school. Today, he's wearing a white t-shirt with the Attack Cat and Ohio Football written on the front. And regardless of what happens tomorrow, I'm sure he'll be wearing Ohio gear some next week, too.
