blah blah blah, this thread is useless.  he is an OHIO fan and he plans to root for and throw a tailgate for OHIO that is good enough for me.  the whole point of a forum is to let people voice their opinion, you can like it or not but there is no reason to belittle anyone not even Love.  just say you disagree, give your reasons, and move on.

But the Buckeye haters want it both ways. They bash OSU's schedule and say they play nothing but cupcakes in the non-conference. They go on and on about what a crappy schedule they play and blah, blah, blah. Well, if that is the case, then they are calling us a cupcake and a crappy team. And then when someone says he thinks OSU will hammer us he is bashed. Why is he bashed for saying OSU will hammer us when the Buckeye haters have already said we are a cupcake. If we are a cupcake they should hammer us. So it is not only certain "dual" fans who are saying we are inferior. The very people who bash them have already said the same thing.

I've never made any negative remarks about OSU's football team. They're one of the most storied programs in all of college sport and have a record of success that other programs should aspire to achieve. And when they don't play us I wish them the best. I'm glad they're giving us the opportunity to play them, I appreciate the $850K check that comes with it, and I'm humbled they'd name their stadium after us. Beyond that I follow Ohio State as much as I follow Shawnee State.

But if you're a Buckeye fan and you come on here and start talking about how bad we we are and how we have no chance, and how being a hopeful fan is "unrealistic" I find it unproductive and deliberately confrontational. Its not that criticism isn't welcomed, it absolutely is, but how bout presenting it in a way that's more conducive to an open dialog amongst fans. that's all.

I just don't understand why someone is bashed simply for predicting OSU will beat us by three touchdowns. Heck, they beat Marshall 45-7 and Marshall just beat us. Right after the Toledo game many people were talking about how terrible we are, so why is it so horrible to predict that OSU will beat us by three touchdowns. You can be an Ohio fan and root for Ohio and still think we will get beat. Most of the Buckeye haters simply don't think rationally when it comes to OSU - their hatred for OSU gets in the way of rational thinking.

After today, I should be applauded for saying only 3 TDs.  Vegas said 31 points, and they're way smarter than I am.

Speaking only for myself, it wasn't the prediction itself that raised my ire, but the repetitive comments that anyone that thought we had any shot was delusional, etc.  Predicting a loss is fine, I just don't need to see it repeated several times across multiple threads, especially when it is accompanied by assinine assertions that no one can reasonably disagree with the prediction.  That is doubly true when the game in question is against the Suckeyes.

As for the Vegas spread, I would be stunned if we lose by 30+.  The Sucks will come out flat, and we'll play significantly better than against Toledo.  I don't bet on sports, but that line even has me tempted...

I agree with you here.  I do bet, moderately, and already have my $25 on the 'Cats to cover this one.

It really comes down to if either of our quarterbacks is healthy, meaning at least 85%. I really hope one of them gets there by Saturday. I think the Cats will cover as well but if Boo and Bates are still battling injuries, we're in for a long day.

Here is a very fair and honest approach to this argument....

Oz...

and I'm asking for a 100% honest breakdown (and I swear I will not rip you apart if I don't like your answer) of your spending on Ohio Football vs. Ohio State football...

Please include:
Tickets
Merchandise
Any donations to Ohio State or Ohio
Gameday Expenses (Tailgating, drinks, food, invites, etc)

As an OU fan hypothesizing that a lot of alumni money goes to Columbus...I'm curious to ask one of our split fans how their dollar is divided on the issue.

Keep in mind Oz goes both ways (not in that respect, people)...so you can probably multiply his OSU expenses by 2 for the Ohio grads that have completely sold themselves to the devil, instead of just 50% of their soul.

Let's have it...

I'm a grad of both -i  wore the old scarlet and gray for years - but like Hank Williams said - I finally saw the light - on Staturday I'll wear all GREEN AND WHITE and be proud.    Sure hope we can blolck 54 - SImon tore up Marshall and was tough on Sat.  He worries me!  Hated to se Miami run back kikcks - I was hoping that kick returns may have given us some opportunities  and field position - now OS will mmake them a priority for improvement.  I hate to say OSU is loaded in all areas.  But I still think our defense can play well against them like we did in "08 and keep it close to give us a chance.  And, I believe Coach Solich and a better coaching staff gives us a shot.   I'm sold on 'em.I hope all OU fans with tickets go and support the BOBCATS

According to Frank, Notestine and Keller are getting MRIs today and are doubtful. Losing horses.

That's why Vegas has the line where it is-to entice more betting, not as an accurate barometer of what they think the true margin of victory will be.  Or so my gambling buddies tell me......

GO CATS!!!  Beat that Ohio "wannabe" to the northwest!

On the drive home to work tonight I was listening to Buckeye Roundtable on WKNR (before I get blasted for listening to Ohio State radio, I listened only to see what they had to say about OU and OUr chances Saturday) Coach Solich was on the broadcast.  He didn't mention Notestine but he did bring up Keller.  Solich said that Keller isn't practicing this week, he has a very high threshold of pain and will be tough to keep off the field on Saturday.  If that guy doesn't suit up on Saturday, OUr chances are slim and none, and None just left town.

I think we're going to get killed too, and I NEVER think that.  I always expect us to be competitive in both Basketball and Football.  Rarely are we not competitive, but our offense has nothing and probably will do more damage than good.  Even if the offense can move the ball a few first downs without a turnover, I can't see us putting a sustained drive to keep our defense off the field.  Our defense will be up for the first quarter, maybe two, but they'll eventually cave in from bailing out the offense.  I'll be cheering the green and white in the stadium and hoping I'm wrong.

Love, without giving it more than 3 minutes thought, here's my guess:

OSU
Tickets were $70 a game this year, so $70 x 2 x 8 = $1,120
I tailgate for 1 or 2 games, so with parking, maybe $50 x 2 = $100
I have not bought an OSU shirt with my own funds in a long time
My cousin pays for 2 games, so subtract $280
I never buy anything at concessions during the game

OU
As previously stated, I typically don't pay to get into games, so $0
I'll spend $15 - $20 on concessions a game = $40
Any trip to Athens usually means a stop at Universitees $20
Most trips also involve Big Mama's, the Pub, Red Brick, Pawpurrs, and DP Dough - this is not directed towards the University, but it stays in Athens, $100 - $150
Homecoming: Friday night - between $200 - $500, but I won't remember spending it, so it does not count
Donation varies, but not as high as it should be

I'm a terrible example, as I try to make it a point to keep it somewhere close.  But your hypothesis Love may as well be law.  Most of my OU friends that tailgate in Cbus spend way more than I do.

I dont think he's patronizing. He's being a realist. You cannot honestly think that Ohio is going to win the game next Saturday. Are we all optimistic, hopeful, and unbelievably supportive of the Green and White to win this game and pull off the huge upset? ABSOLUTELY, WITHOUT QUESTION OR DISCUSSION. However, the odds are 85% against us, maybe more.

In all fairness, it's more like about >99.9% against Ohio. The Bobs are 31-point underdogs. Hundreds of college football games normally go by each year without that kind of upset. There have been only a handful or so (Stanford vs. USC in 2007, App State vs. Michigan in 2007, Temple vs. VT in 1998, etc.) in the last 10-15 years of that kind of magnitude. That said, like they say, there's always a chance and that's why they play the game.

Credit to Oz for being honest.

If we're not quite healthy for this one, the goal should be to get so for the MAC sched.  It's just not gonna be good.

Thanks Oz. This just illustrates what I'm trying to say.

Here's a guy that actually follows Ohio Athletics, that still puts $1,000 into Ohio State's coffers. Trust me, this is the most glaring, vicious problem we face.

This is $1,000 we need to keep in Athens multiplied by thousands.

I can't make it any clearer than this. You must keep the money at home.

Again, Faboolous and New Mexico State aren't going to cut it.

Well please allow me to state that I'm a proud member of The Ohio Club. That said, OUr D-Fence is pretty banged up. Although, I'm still a believer in this team. We are up against a major power-house on Sat. But, I do think that we'll cover the spread.
Oz, thanks for the invite. But, I'll be rolling 30 deep(and we always strapped up!) to the Thirsty Scholar. This Has been my Slosu pre-game tradition since 1999. Win or lose, We gonna paint that b**** Green N White, 1804!!

If OZcat is like me, that $1,100 for OSU Season Tickets is an investment.  Between the Marshall game and the Miami game I have recouped $1,000 of my initial $1,100.  With Penn State and Michigan left I expect to return 150% in a three month window.

I'll throw in my 2 cents on this subject. To give Love another OSUfan/OU alums spending habits.

OSU:
I bought my OU v OSU tickets from my brother who is a OSU alum: $148 (me and my wife are going)
Concessions: $40 for mixers for my sneaked in rum and maybe something for the wife like nachos or hot dog.
OSU Apparal: Haven't bought anything in about 3-4 years, but I do need a new jersey as the numbers on my old one are peeling away. Plus will probably get a few OSU outfits for my 2 yr old: $125
Columbus Hotel: $100
COTA has a bus route tht starts near my hotel, so no parking for me, but $10 for bus fare.
Not sure what I will be doing tailgate wise...

Ohio:
Just bought $100 worth of T-shirts and toddler clothes and had them delivered a few weeks ago before football season. (earlier this year during basketball season spent $50 on Ohio Lanyard I wear at work and some toddler clothes)
MAC Tournament Tickets: 2 tickets x 3 games x $??? (can't remember the cost) While I don't make it back to Athens, I make sure I am at the MAC tournament for every Ohio game here in Cleveland.
Not sure what I will be doing tailgate wise as I don't know if I can make it to the Lodge Bar Friday night.

Now, my normal OSU spending is actually less as this year they are playing Ohio so I HAD to get tickets for that game. Normally IF I go to an Ohio State game I go for free thanks to my lil brother and his alumni tickets. Though I do pay him by paying for his alcohol.

Jan Palmer taught me a few things about supply and demand.  Yes, I typically use my tickets to boost my own ROI.  In the days of the HDTV, I find it more appealing to watch at home or elsewhere.  Plus, if I was in the 'Shoe last weekend I would have missed Denard Robinson shredding Notre Dame, which brought me much joy.

I will probably only make it to Homecoming this year.  Most of this is because the future brother-in-law is playing his senior season for Capital, and I'm trying to make most of his games.  But if OU had Iowa State, Northwestern, Indiana, Minnesota, UConn or a similar 'lower rung' BCS program on the schedule, I would be there.  So to Love's point, Wofford and Louisiana whoever will not get it done.
