My daughter just called me. Her boyfriends house is damaged in The Plains, just north of Athens, and supposedly other houses have much greater damage. Will try to find out more. She said the Athens High football field structures were damaged also. My renters in The Plains said it looks like half of the trees on their street are down (some big ones) and several houses she can see have trees into them. Just looking on channel 3 out of West Virginia is showing an email photo of a fairly large building totally destroyed in the plains and they said a trailer park has been destroyed. Channel 3 wsaz said they will break into programming as they learn more. update  9:18 Channel 3 just showed a video of the funnel cloud south of Nelsonville.....My fiance is on the phone with a friend who lives in the plains,,,,,he says it is a war zone.....huge trees down, roofs completely torn off of houses......

Yeah I hear the field and bleachers are all tore up and the lights are down, the Athens Messenger's roof was tore off from what I heard.  I do know 105.5 is out, all there is is just static on it.  I'm pretty sure I saw the base cloud for it because that was in the direction of the plains about the start of the storm.

Trying to keep up on twitter.  It really is a valuable resource for up to the second updates.  Some people are saying that the Athens Messenger building is destroyed and some Auto Tech building is gone.  Trailers along US 33 destroyed.

3 tornados supposedly...  East State, Plains, Nelsonville.

From what I've heard there were damages to numerous houses and trailers (never good), Athens HS, Hocking College, Autotech, and Athens Messenger (estimated 2-3 weeks out of print per twitter)...

I was in Walmart at the time...  Code black...  Interesting experience..

Edit:

Reedsville hit too, not sure if that was a different tornado or not..

I hope everything goes well, I was worried when these storms were coming through London, now after hearing they hit Athens, it was a double strike to my heart. Not even beat State could make me feel better.

"Ohio University students received an emergency text from the university at about 8:15 p.m., an hour and 15 minutes after the tornado's unconfirmed touchdown. The text message stated that the campus would remain under tornado warning until 8:30 p.m."

Yeah I'm not sure why you would have an emergency text system if you aren't going to use it effectively. Tomorrow there is supposed to be a text of the emergency text system and I'm sure it'll be right on time with when it was planned. What a joke.

AutoTech was really hit hard, some damage to the Super 8 next door as well.

Athens Schools closed tomorrow, Nelsonville on 2-hr delay.

Weld House on South Green is open as a Red Cross shelter.

I drove down to the Super 8 when I heard it got hit with some friends and snapped some quick shots before we were asked to leave by some guy with a chainsaw. You don't question a man with a chainsaw. Here they are:

(just a tree)

(metal like this was all over)

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs318.ash2/59...
(power completely out on east state starting at bob evans)

(metal just completely bent around that pole in the middle of the shot, there was stuff like this all over. metal bent around telephone poles, light posts, etc. Pretty amazing and eerie to see.

Several coaches houses were hit and they are leaving their families in the morning with a lot of work to do and some with real issues at home. Keep them in your thoughts.

Here's a pic I took of a funnel cloud over Biddle/Lincoln. We saw lots of potential funnel clouds starting to swirl, but this was definitely the closest to a tornado producing funnel.
