Jason Arkley is reporting that MLB Noah Keller could miss Saturday's game at Marshall, and that his status for the rest of the season is in jeopardy.

I guess our best player possibly being out the rest of the season isn't that important...bump.

I guess I could look it up, but probably someone knows -- can Noah still get a redshirt if he misses the rest of the season having played three games?  Regardless, hopefully he's alright and just misses this week.

It's important but hardly surprising that more wheels are coming off. I sincerely hope he will be OK as he is a fine football player.

We needed more bad news. Unreal. Hope #47 is alright. When you are voted captain as a junior it says a lot about your leadership qualities not mention your on field play.

What's the injury? Timeline ranging from possibly being out Saturday to season being in jeopardy is a little vague.

The rule is that he has to play in 20% or less of the games, which would be 2.

I guess we'll see in the Messenger today. Arkley was vague with his Twitter post as well. Anyone who subscribes to the Messenger online should be happy to let us know what the deal is, I hope.

Actually I'm seeing three events or 30% of the competition in the "hardship waiver" clause of the regulations:

Section 14.2.4c

Strange that he had the MRI before the OSU game and played the OSU game without apparent injury. Now he's out for the season?  Is someone playing mind games?

Section "c " you refer to is only one criteria of the Hardship Waiver. He must meet all criteria to qualify for the hardship waiver. Which, in this case, it looks like he does. He also still has a year to burn anyways since he is a true senior. Wondering if this is the logic behind sitting him for the rest of the season?

Who then will fill in at MLB? Lee Renfro?

There was supposed to be a discussion on 970 tonight if anyone caught it. From the looks of Brian Boesch's tweet earlier today, I think Noah's season is over.

He's listed as the starting MLB on the depth chart, but then again, that could just be trying to hide the fact that anything is wrong. Jay Edwards is listed as the backup.

Does Edwards have what it takes or do we want to bring in somebody like Renfro on the outside for experience?

If you have a year to burn I am not sure you are eligible for a hardship, hardships are generally for a player who has exhausted his eligibility and missed more than one year due to injury.

I say it will likely be somebody that hasn't already graduated...

Renfro is gone.

Next year looks like a battle between  Edwards.....Joe Stefanski....and recruit Ben Russell.

Also may look at Blake Jones and Keith Moore.

Generally yes, that is what the most likely scenario is when a hardship is given (See cases such as Ben Mauk at UC who was denied a 6th year, and others who were granted a 5th or 6th like the Ohio State kicker a few years back). However, the rule states that the injury only has to happen in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition. I'm pretty sure Noah fits that criteria.

My feeling on injury is it's a little like S. Jackson's last year.  You can play on it at 80% (give or take), or you can get surgery and have a good chance to recover fully.  If you have NFL aspirations and can still redshirt, the latter choice probably makes the most sense.  If you can't redshirt or just like playing behind a super deep D-line with all seniors starting, maybe you go ahead and finish your career at a sub-optimal level.  EDIT: note this is pure speculation on my part.  It could be a completely different deal.

I'm still not sure about the redshirt rule.  From my quick read I feel like the rules say Noah could get a redshirt, but my credence in LC's posts, plus the fact that S. Jackson only played in two games last season IIRC, makes me uncertain.

According to one Marshall fan who posted a comment on the Huntington Herald-Dispatch Web site ("Bobcats may be without star LB" - link on home page of bobcatattack.com), Keller has played the last nine games with torn knee cartilage. Maybe Arkley or The Post have already reported this, maybe the Herd fan doesn't know what he's talking about, but thought I'd pass this along.

An "insider" on this board told me he has a severe case of turf toe.
