Ohio comes in at 152 YPG passing and 155 YPG running the ball.  Is anyone as surprised as I am about the balance of the numbers or the running or passing numbers?   We still are not consistent running the ball, but big plays-mostly be the QB's have gotten us this far.  Our third down success is bad. It looks like we will run as long as it works, but against folks like Kent, we're going to have to pass more if we hope to succeed IMO. WE also seem to be getting almost the most points out of this little amount of offense in the country.  Any comments?

I think it was similar last year. Not good at putting drives together (bad 3rd conversion and YPG nationally) but lots of big plays resulting in scores. Now in MAC play, with Harden back and the QB rotation potentially settled, the run numbers and 3rd down conversions may improve.

I think Harden will help cure some of the failure's of the offense not being able to sustain drives.

Also, one interesting statistic that shows in part why we've been able to score as many points as we have despite a somewhat limited offensive production is that we are among the leaders in the country at red zone offense. For some reason, once we get to the red zone, our offense continues its roll.

One huge improvement in the offense this season vs prior is the "red zone scoring" results--greatly aided by the running game to this point.

O-line is developing.  To me, still needs work in terms of pass blocking.  I am loving that we've been able to run a bit.  Gimme some 2-back sets and the power run game.

But our passing game is so vital, we have the talent.  Wanna see more downfield throws.  Passing game hasn't been vibrant...yet.

Yeah.....should be able to do it even better next year.

With big John Prior added to the current o-line......and the use of a big back like Boykin........I think we can play some smash mouth next year.

Last year the high points for the amount of yards was caused by short fields from turnovers. This year it is from red zone efficiency. I'll take the later.
