From The Athletic:

“The upcoming College Football Playoff expansion and the incredible foundation for success we have within our football program provides an exciting national opportunity for Bronco football. It is imperative that we seize this opportunity by pursuing a new direction within our football program,” athletic director Dan Bartholomae said in a news release. “Western Michigan University can set the standard for football in the MAC, which in turn will position us for success in the new and evolving college football landscape. We will immediately embark on a search to welcome a leader that shares this aspirational vision.”

If the CFP expansions includes an automatic bid to the highest G5 school, in 2024 they play Wisconsin, Marshall, and Ohio St.

IF they were to go undefeated (unlikely), it would be an easy shoe-in. I have serious doubts they can turn around their program that quickly, but they certainly have an opportunity. Better than most MAC schools with their OOC schedule that year.

They also have a $500M gift to help fund their resurgence.

And, also a lot of businesses in the area that might provide NIL money.

It'll be interesting. But it's hard to imagine another PJ will walk thru the door. If this was three years from now, maybe Brian Hartline from OSU, but not now. Maybe Urban's son in law, Cory Dennis.

The gift was $550 million, but "only" $50 million is earmarked for athletics. It's a lot for sports but very far from half a billion.

Commend their think big mentality. That said does it border on delusion? They like ALL MAC schools play in the shadow of true NATIONAL brand Goliaths Michigan-Ohio State-Notre Dame. Those 3 schools play before packed houses week in week out, have a massive advantage in TV revenues and a 50 million donation from a BIG booster is chump change lunch money to them. And IF they hire the next Brian Kelly to lift a middlin MAC program above the ashes he will be on the first private jet OUT of the ZOO to a life changing paycheck elsewhere. It’s just a fact of life in the MAC. Wish them the best in their efforts though! BTW when does their stadium expansion start😂

If the 50 million is used properly, it can be dangerous. But that means building out strategic long-term investments that become piggy banks for the departments, not bandage spends to fix plumbing or whatever else it is.... a la Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

The point is that the $550 million will help build the overall university that ultimately will help the athletic programs- don’t you think?

BTC says that they are building a new 50,000-seat stadium, with luxury boxes for the Kalamazoo corporate executives, and it will soon be announced that they are replacing Northwestern in the B1G. Northwestern will then replace them in the MAC.

Interesting to see the first open HC job in the MAC since expansion was announced framed in this way. I don't dislike it and if the OU HC job was open, I would hope we would be shooting for the moon.

Good luck WMU. Hope to see you for many years in Detroit.

Akron has framed every major coaching change this way for years. Meanwhile, their enrollment keeps dropping and dropping...

Rising tides and that... but, it's $300M going to build a medical facility.

The rest is spread across dozens of programs for the next 10 years.

I think they're gonna need more than ipads in the lockeroom to ever be more than a middle program in the MAC.

They're competing with the other directionals at this point. Think they have a ways to go before we need be worried.

Long-term investment play in the medical facilities.

I like it very much from a long-term growth of the university and future potential donors. If they can even get 100 of them to write 10k checks for the heck of it, that goes a long way towards moving the needle
