Fellow Bobcats, what we have seen the last 2 months is like the plot of every sports movie ever. Hopeless looking team comes together to go on an epic run and thrust themselves into the spotlight. Not thru transfers, getting healthy, a vaunted recruiting class, new coaching staff...none of that. It's basically entirely the same guys across the board.
A group of coaches and players that worked their asses off to get better. That believed in each other and bought into a culture. That resisted the urge to finger point, didn't bail...just kept working and believing in the process.
This is what being a loyal sports fan is all about. You all should be commended for being here all year, following your team as they seemed to be heading in the wrong direction being rebuilt after a pandemic wipes out a season and a coaching legend retires. It is even more sweeter for those of you who showed some optimism and were not ready to give up on Albin and the Solich era altogether.
There will be thousands of "Bobcats" that wake up this week and realize their school is doing well. They'll briefly remove their heads from Brutus' ass and act like they care a little about their school. We welcome them with open arms, but truthfully they missed out on the awesome experience we all shared as we watched this team and OUR SCHOOL figure it out. Anyone can show up after they turned the corner, but witnessing them do it is the true joy of being a fan. Let it be a life lesson to always stay plugged into the process, regardless of the outlook.
This team deserves all the support it can get. The game will be in Toledo's backyard, they have the best fan base in the MAC outside of Athens and will bring a huge crowd. Both these programs have had tons of regular season success but lots of falling just short in the last decade or 2. It's an NFL stadium, climate controlled, a cheap $20 ticket, and the atmosphere is gonna be awesome. The Noon start makes it an easy same day trip for 90% of our students & alumni.
It's been 54 years! You've got to do everything you can to be there when that drought finally ends. See you there! Let's go Bobcats!
Great post. I'm waiting for your script for the made-for-TV (ESPN) movie! ;-)
