I couldn't find the thread about the replica jerseys, but I remember people wishing that they could get something other than the plain green ones that say OHIO BOBCATS on the front that they have on-line and at Folletts.  I was recently on footballfanatics.com, which I believe is the same company that links to the store at OhioBobcats.com, and they had a jersey that I hadn't seen before.  It was made by Russell and is a little bit more similar ot the actual jersey that the previous version I mentioned.  I'll link the jersey below, not sure if it's been posted before, but just thought I would share.

Only thing about that Jersey that is correct is the fact that it is Green.

I would sign my living will over to any store that offered a true replica Ohio jersey.

How much does a 'true replica' sell for?

Why aren't people in Athens walking around in Keller and Brazill and Gerald Moore and Boo, etc jerseys?

I'd give anything to find a decent replica jersey as well.  It's kind of sad that the one I posted in the first place is about the closest I've seen all year.  It's not a matter of Russell not selling them either, I realize it's the fact that the bookstores won't purchase them in the bulk that they need to be purchased.  For example, I know we're not on the same level as georgia tech, but they're also a russell school and have many numerical choices in a pretty good looking replica as seen below.

I don't know Monroe, maybe it is because no one offers one.  As for price, check out the crap they are selling, $59.00 for crap.  What we really need here is a good venture capital company to get this started.  Do you know any Monroe?

this frusterates me so much...  kinda dissapointing to a d1 football program and not have a variety of jersey's to buy. i understand the risk of producing them and then not selling any but you never until you give it a shot. im sure tons of people would buy actual nice replica jersey's - not screen printed crap.

How about this for a radical idea: What if the athletic department, when they order jerseys, ordered 100 extra authentic jerseys, marked them up, and sold the real thing to the Bookstore? If garbage goes for $59, perhaps the real thing would sell for $99. Maybe they'd be breaking some NCAA rule, I don't know....

Would not be a violation of any rule, the problem is the start up cost.  How/Why is athletics going to foot that bill, and you would be surprised at the cost of a real jersey.

JCW, given that I have no idea what the cost of a real one is, I very well might be surprised. I do know that in the days of tear-away jerseys (1970ish), those were perhaps a hundred dollars each. As for current jerseys, I kind of thought that nowadays companies like Russell sold the real ones fairly cheaply so that they could get their name out there, hoping to make the profit from sales of other items to consumers. If the cost of real shirts is so high that there is no chance that a real one  could be sold profitably, then obviously it's not a good idea.

A real one could be sold profitably given the marketing and the demand to push the numbers needed.  As I have said before the retail people in town and the Universities own shop in Baker do not see the demand for this item at the cost point that they would need.

Actually it's because it would be a violation of NCAA rules to sell an authentic or replica jersey with a players name on it, since the player is not allowed to collect any royalties on it.  If you do see an 'authentic' jersey with a name of it, it's either:
A) a knock off
B) a jersey of a player who is already in the NFL, much like the Ladanian Tomlinson throwback TCU jersey I have.  We also sold Palamalu's USC jersey and Peterson's OU jersey (as well as some Buckeyes like Herbstriet) at the store in Columbus.

FWIW -

I was a manager for the Sports Fan-Attic up in Columbus for a little before moving back down here.  They would sell Authentic Buckeye Jerseys for around $150, and replicas for around $65ish.

Authentic NFL jerseys would retail for around 300 or so, depending on the player (longer names cost more because it takes more stiching) and 80 for replicas durring the season.  Usually half off the rest of the year.

There's another type of jersey (replithentic) that has a stiched name and number on it, but everything else (team logo, any designs ont he arms, ect) are iron on like the replicas.  They usually sold for around 120.

Edit to add:
When I was working in Columbus I often asked why we didn't carry more OU items (all we had at the time was a couple hats, one of which I sold to our very own Bornabobcat, and a bumper sticker).  The answer I always got back was that Ohio, for whatever the reason, was very stingy about giving up it's licencing.

Fiami isn't as strict with thier licencing, while we didn't cary as many items as we did for OSU, we did have several different hats, novelty items, and jerseys for the Redhawks.  I even bought my dad a throwback Ben Rothlesburger Fiami bobble head (he graduated from Fiami..I try not to hold it against him).

You thought wrong.

The jersey OUr boys are wearing are custom made and Russell's top-of-the-line material with sewn on numbers and names.  A person on the street couldn't touch those for under $250.

I would be willing to buy something that resembled these if the bookstore sold them!

Could the bookstores offer them on their websites or on a 'will order to fill request' basis?

I get email about Bobcat memorabilia.  Here, too, couldn't the items, despite their hefty price tags, at least be offered?

Or is there a minimum order size requried by the distributors?

I know that the only types of jersey's we could 'order to fill request' were jersey's for things like the world series, super bowl, ect.

Other then that, you couldn't call Nike up and ask for 12 jerseys, you had to order in bulk.

However, should OU ever make authentic jersey's avaliable, you wouldn't have to pay much more then $150 in season for then I'd assume.

Since many of our students wear Ohio State jerseys to our games, the best we can possibly hope for this the split Ohio/O$U jersey that Mrs. Posey wore!

Maybe we can try the green and silver again even though that did not work during the Cleve Bryant years.  Maybe we could sell Ohio Jerseys and helmets that looks like Ohio State?

I recently bought a quality NFL replica, you know one of those jerseys that actually looks like the real thing for 37 dollars on discount. It has a b.s. Reebok logo on the side but for going out to sports bars it more than makes the grade. The authentic NFL jerseys were selling for about $280 with tax at the official team store which is pricey. You might be able to go as cheap as 200 dollars for an authentic but I wouldn't bank on it. If Ohio allowed one to buy authentic jerseys I'd get 1 for every player on the 2010 MAC Championship team as they'd be a huge collector item 50 years from now.

I was taunted last night at our local OU watering hole with an authentic, game-worn ULL Ragin' Cajun jersey.  I have it and will bring it tomorrow.  Look for the poorly-dressed skeleton in Tailgreat Park pregame.  If I can find a Ragin' Cajun jersey in Parkersburg, it should not be that hard to find a Bobcat jersey in Athens.

Yes those jersey's are legal.  The only thing you can not do is sell them with the players name on them, however you can make them with a number (which of course represents a player), and sell them.  Notice the price on the Miami Jersey's.  Bottom line, our department does not see this as there place (which I am not sure they should be putting capital into this), and the bookstores who do not see the economic sense in this, which at those prices I am not sure they would sell many of them.
