OK I'll bite.  Who would you like to take the hundred grand from?  Are you punishing them?  It's not like it comes from nowhere.

If it's anything like last years debacle...Yes. I would argue we are punishing them by sending them to Detroit for a bowl game against another crap team.

Right, because the extra 15 practices aren't worth it or anything.

Those 15 practices really paid dividends when I left for the Varsity Club while being embarrassed at Ohio Stadium.

Sorry if I offended you.

Wait.  No, I'm not.  I know you get riled up at any statement that dares defy the company line, but the fact that our best seasons cause us to lose significant money is not something to be ignored.  I will keep bringing it up.  This is as much an indictment of the system as it is our program.

Is it worth it to you?  If it is, that's fine.  I won't hold it against you.  But it's a fact worth reminding people.

Why don't we ask them if they want to go (of course they do). You still don't have a clue.

They should set a firm requirement that a school must be 7-5 to fill a bowl game and a conference must have enough 7 win teams over a period of time to certify a bowl. That would eliminate 4-5 games and prevent 6 win MAC and SBC teams from squaring off. Its one thing when a school has an SEC level fanbase to go to a bowl at 6-6. Its another when you have a MAC level fan base. A MAC fanbase can burnout quickly on 6 or 7 win bowl invites. Life would be better if the MAC had only 2 contracted bowls like Mobile and Boise with the ability to back fill for the SEC in the Music City or another solid mid tier bowl in order to place a good 10-2 type MAC team. Please let the Pizza bowl fold.

When is the last time a 6-6 MAC team went to a bowl? Most years there are some 6-6 BCS teams that dont even go to bowls.

Since going to a bowl is just a waste of $100K, what if we found a way, and I know this is going to sound crazy, but what if we found a way to get a school to pay us to play them during the season? Like, what if we could find a school about an hour away that would pay us enough money to cover the costs of the next 8 bowl games? Would that help soften the blow? but where would ever find someone willing to pay us that kind of money?

As Flomo said, the Ohio State money is already gone to cover everyday expenses that student fees don't cover.  With 35 bowls this year, they may have trouble filling all 70 slots with 6 and 6 or better teams.

2008, NIU.  The main reason a 6-6 MAC team didn't go to a bowl last year is because there were no 6-6 teams.  If I remember correctly, ND declined a bid, and there were only two other teams 6-6 or better that weren't selected (the Louisianas).

LOL I remember the good ole days when we used to never go to a Bowl game and longed for the day we would make it back.  We have only gone to two bowl games and now people don't want us to go back?  I don't even know what to say, maybe you should switch your allegiance to EMU who won't be going any time soon or maybe to Ohio State who consistently goes to BCS bowls, oh wait then you would have to be disappointed you didn't go to the Title Game every year.

Obviously, the point is the system is broken if teams lose money through their "reward" of a bowl game. Yet, I've never seen a team that would actually lose money on a bowl decline, so there must some greater value than cash. And until that changes, the system probably won't change either.

Also, I'm not sure what problem people have with the Little Ceasar's Bowl. Sure, Detroit is not an exciting place to go, but it is the most realistic bowl for fans to actually travel to and the cheapest for the team to travel to.

If it's anything like last years debacle...Yes. I would argue we are punishing them by sending them to Detroit for a bowl game against another crap team.

Another crap team that's beaten us twice in a row.

Exactly.  Some of you act like we are better than the schedule we are playing, the bowl bids we are getting, the bowl opponents we are getting.  We are not.  Let's defeat that crap team and win that crappy bowl a time or 2 before we start whining and wanting more.  Better quality OOC opponents and better and more profitable bowls will come after we take care of the crappy OOC opponents and crappy bowls.  We have to start somewhere, and we have already come a LONG way (see LC's post).

Kind of like the money from the Xavier game that was supposed to pay for the CBI game?

The CBI...that was great. Any post season tournament that allows a 12-19 Cincinnati team is something I want to be a part of.
