The weekly press conference with coach Solich was scheduled for Wednesday 11/10/10.  Did it occur?  If so Jason, will you be posting it?  It MAY be enlightening to hear any response he would have to questions about Boo's present condition.

Any help?

With every day comes more info about the incident and Boo's physical status. Physically, it appears the injury was not as serious as we first thought. Based upon the concussion tests performed he appears to have no post concussion issues, good news. The swollen eye appears to be the only issue that needs time to heal. The extra time before the next game bodes well for him and the team from a healing opportunity from any injuries.
Now it's all speculation as to whether he will play.
I looks like, from what we are all reading, Bates will probably start and depending on how the game unfolds will depend on what Frank decides to do with the back-up QB position if needed.
You would have to think that Temple will figure that Bates will start, no surprises there.
Frank and the crew will probably pull out some new wrinkles, plays, for this game.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hershey does his thing at some point during the game. After all, every time he does it's a game changer.

Big game, reported injury to a key player that has gotten real media attention, no legal requirements for reporting.  Frank and the staff would be crazy to give definitive status updates on the situation.  There is a real difference in how you prepare your defense and team for Boo v. Phil, and in prep for them both together.  What we are seeing is a classic case of gamesmanship, and given the circumstances of the game a pretty good move.

I'm sure we'll get one more update from Solich on Monday.

Absolutely agree with John on his most recent post.  Also, is there a presser Monday?  It seems to me that they pushed this week's to Wednesday to serve as the pre-game press conference... I would have to think the team would be on the road Monday.

Monday is the weekly MAC call-in press conference. Each coach takes questions over the phone for 10 minutes.

Here is a new update from Boo about 10 minutes ago on Facebook:

News getting better and better. Its a progress and I'm progressing GREAT!

Latest tweet from Boo: "News getting better and better. Its a progress and I'm progressing GREAT!"

Not sure what that means, maybe his Scientology audits are going well and his thetan levels are progressing nicely. Or his injuries are healing...probably one of those two things.

I'd hope that 'gamesmenship' would be over-rated and a nonfactor.  Should a major college coach  be worried about that or should he just concentrate on preparing his team as best as possib for all likely scenarios--especially given that there's 100% agreement here that we are at our most dangerous when Bates and Boo are both used?!

Some times--which means most of the time--there's way too much speculation and idle thought here.  The way this place 'sploded in threads about the altercation last Friday night despite there being at that time very little in the way of reliable info was sad.

Oh.  One other thing.  Boo starts and plays his usual role.

If Solich decided to reveal Boo's condition with no consideration for strategy against Temple, Slavin's response would be something like this:

Why aren’t we thinking, keeping Temples in the dark? Not that hard to think, give OHIO the advantage. Got Frank has tool to beat down oppo—why not use it? Much harder to prepare for a team when you don’t know their capables. We get an opportunity to throw Temples into a guessing game—but we don’t use it. No, that would be smart. We don’t do smart.

If you don't think gamesmanship is used at the collegiate level you're insane. Browns fans will tell you how Eric Mangini tries to keep the starting QB a secret because he thinks it's a competitive advantage over the other team's defense. We can certainly debate how true that philosophy is, but JCW and others who have mentioned this are right. A lot of coaches see this type of stuff as a competitive advantage that could give them an edge. It happens.

In fact I'm hearing this whole Boo fight situation was staged for competitive advantage purposes. So Temple wouldnt know which quarterback to prepare for this week. Frank is a genius.

That's what I want--a coach who's consumed with mind games instead of preparing his own team.  Maybe Temples worries about this stuff.  I hope that we don't.  We gotta do what we gotta do mostly irrespective of what they may be trying to make us think about.

More important for us to prepare well or for us to spend time on the mind games?

So let me get this right, he spent 15 minutes in a news conference not elaborating on Boo’s condition, and thus not letting Temple know the extent of the injuries – and you are considering that “consuming.”  And the result is Temple is not sure if, and how much, Boo will be playing.  And since the 15 minute press conference he is spending the rest if his time preparing his team. Sounds like 15 minutes well spent – though I guess he could have diagramed a few new plays during that time.  Give it up.

Answering a question in a press conference is not preparing to spend time on mind games, it is simply being a politician and not answering the question.

I wish I could sugar coat this but I can't, you have just shown once again your blatant ignorance for the ins and outs of the game of football.  Boo being in the game or not has a profound impact on how Temple prepares their defense for the game.  Now I am pretty sure they will prepare as if Boo is playing, but they also have to be spending time breaking down and/or finding early game tape of Phil at QB as the QB (because our offense was different) as well as spending time preparing for the two headed QB attack.  Every minute they have to spend preparing for something through film study, walk through and practice that may or may not happen is an advantage to Ohio (it may not be the game for Ohio, but it makes them work that much harder).  You really should stick to simple rants about the road graders, Miami sucks or use the TE more.  Something where you can hold a half way intelligent conversation with yourself.  And there

The coaches likely don't know what all the options are yet because the docs haven't given Franshaw the final ok.  So honesty winds up being the best gamesmanship because it keeps the Temps guessing.  Obviously, the Temps will prep for Bates, but the increased likelihood that Franshaw will get in the game in some manner has to make the Temps spend SOME time prepping for Franshaw.  That could make them less prepped for Bates, and maybe less effective.

Some of the comments posted here demonstrate why some people become accountants and some become football coaches.

My guess is Frank is a lot less "consumed" with this than we are.

Does anybody know the rule on using tinted visors? I know you have to have a medical reason to do so, but what kind of medical reasons justify it? I'm wondering if Boo could use "headaches from bright lights" as a complication from the punch to use the tinted visor. If the D can't read his eyes as well, we might not have as many of those pesky INTs.

NCAA did away with the tinted visor about four years ago.  There is no waiver or medical excuse for tinted visors anymore.

This is a safety rule as the officials must be able to see the eyes of the players.

Ahh. Well there goes that idea. Back to the drawing board for turning this negative into an on-field positive.

You can't use a visor anymore but you can wear sunglasses.  I remember after this rule that Scott Mayle started wearing a pair of Oakleys under his helmet since he used to always have a visor.
