What has me worried is that Toledo appears to playing rope-a-dope with us by not playing key players against BG and in the upcoming game against WMU. They may be more rested, even if we have more prep time, theoretically at least.

They aren’t playing certain players because they’re hurt. They aren’t just sitting them out. Finn wasn’t even cleared last game so he was ruled out and now Gleason broke his hand. Rest is a bye week. Rust is what you get when you miss too much time.

Ohio simply can’t be beaten by anyone in the MAC. It’s that simple. I don’t care if Finn is back for Toledo or not, it won’t matter. Ohio is just too good and is winning this game. Period. End of story.

I hope that's right, but I heard an ESPN guy on the BG-UT game say that they were just holding the QB out because the BG game wouldn't have any bearing on getting to Detroit. That's a paraphrase, but I thought that was what he was saying. Now ESPN announcers don't always know what they are talking about, particularly when they do G5 games.

Yes, they held QB out. Mr. Exuberant, after like 5 years, may be correct with his optimism this year. A clock is right twice a day so he deserves to be right once.

I agree that this team is motivated and poised to win the MAC.
The Bobcats looked like men playing against boys tonight. If they play this way in the remaining 2 games they just might end up with an 11 win season, but one at a time... win the MAC

And as well established, ESPN guys are always dialed in on the MAC. Toledo vs. BG is a serious mid-major rivalry, no way was Toledo bagging that game to just rest players.

Finn was not held out, he was ruled out because he wasn’t cleared to play because of an ankle injury. He was in a walking boot on the sidelines from an ankle injury he suffered in the Ball State game. He was really laboring with his movement. He also missed the EMU game the week before because of a shoulder injury he suffered on the final play of the Buffalo game. He’s been really banged up since that Buffalo game and his play has taken a turn. He was tearing it up heading into the Buffalo game but got really roughed up and also had 4 pics. Since then he’s missed 2 of 4 games and hasn’t looked the same as he did prior to UB.

This feels like the MAC Championship that should have happened two or three times already given the consistency and trajectory of both programs over the last 10-15 years. Kinda feels like a culmination of sorts.

Like Lizzo says, "It's about damn time."

This is the matchup I've been waiting for. Has potential to draw a nice crowd with Toledo being next door to Detroit. Hope the Bobcat faithful show up in full force and give these guys the support they have earned.

You can tell by the results its not the same Toledo team that it was early in the season.

CMU 38-17 (W)
NIU 53-32 (W)
KSU 52-31 (W)

UB 34-27 (L)
EMU 27-24 (W)
BSU 28-21 (W)
BG 42-35 (L)

They've moved from 3-0 scoring 47.7ppg to 2-2 scoring 29.2ppg. Big drop off in production and that production was produced against 3 of the better defensive teams in the MAC (CMU, NIU, KSU). At this point Toledo is likely a TD better than BSU but represents some of the toughest competition Ohio's had this season.

I wouldn't give too much credence to anything an ESPN announcer says during a midweek MACtion game. Half the time they're not even at the site. Having grown up in Ohio's Great Northwest I know first hand that the BG-Toledo game is the only one that matters for the players, fans and alumni of both schools. A coach for either team who holds out healthy players from that game would wind up with a mouth full of Maumee Bay algae.

Well, if Toledo has shuttle buses from the hotel to the game and OHIO doesn't, my wife will tell me that's a sign we are going to lose. However, I must point out that last night before the game she said we could not possibly win without Rourke. So, her football predicting ability is about on par with most of us here on BA -- lousy! ;-)

The backup, Tucker Gleason, broke his left hand and continued to play in the BG game. He ended up having surgery on it. Not sure if either of them will play tomorrow against Western Michigan. I'd guess not since the game has little meaning.
