Spence was nominated for the Broyles award again this year. I think if Brian is fired, we should bring Spence back as the HC. https://golobos.com/news/2025/11/25/spence-nowinsky-named...

I thought about this. I was wondering how much of the staff he would keep and who would want to stay, especially coach Hauser. I feel like we want a lot of continuity since we are later in the cycle and had a good year and apparently a good recruiting class.

Hauser has good in-state/midwest connections/experience. From Columbus played at Wittenburg. Plus he is already in Athens

2003 Wittenberg (asst.)
2003–2005 Northern Illinois (GA)
2005–2008 Northern Illinois (DB)
2009–2012 Wayne State (DC/DB)
2012 Illinois (Director of Player Personnel)
2012–2013 The Citadel (S/OLB)
2014–2016 Miami (OH) (DB)
2016–2022 Miami (OH) (co-DC/CB)
2022–2023 Ohio (S)
2023–2024 Ohio (S/DPGC)
2024–2025 Ohio (DC/S)
2025–present Ohio (Interim head coach/AHC/DC/S)

Nowinsky played at Minnesota State and is from Minnesota. Strong G5 profile in general but less of a specific Ohio guy.

1995–1996 Lake Crystal Wellcome HS (MN) (assistant)
1997–1998 Wittenberg-Birnamwood HS (WI) (assistant)
1999–2002 Wisconsin (GA)
2003 Idaho (DL)
2004 Minnesota State (DL)
2005 Minnesota State (DL/OL)
2006 Minnesota State (DL)
2007–2008 Emporia State (AHC/DL)
2009–2017 Illinois State (DC/DL)
2018–2021 Miami (OH) (DC/LB)
2022–2023 Ohio (DC/DL)
2024 Memphis (co-DC/DL)
2025–present New Mexico (DC/LB)

I'd have to support anyone born in Minnesota, my natal state. Seriously, I suspect if we get to this point our new AD will want to bring in "his man." That seems to be way it usually works.

Any new man is going to be more expensive and depending on how BS in handled could scare off future coaching hires. Its very wild card situation with a new AD none has even met or a feel for the direction they want to move the athletic department in.

It will be interesting to see if the next head coach is in the Solich/Albin coaching tree like Hauser or Nowinsky.

An "outside hire" would be sexy for the AD. He may want to go get a splash hire like South Florida did with Hartline.

But keeping things in the Solich/Albin/Smith line of coaches would be good for continuity...which might be best for the short term (not having a bad year in 2026)...I am excited to see what the AD does.

If he hires outside, our culture changes. That's why I want Hauser. He'll keep all the OU chants, NAVY Seal training in the summer and various other things that have been apart of our growth and tradition.

We are not like South Florida my friend. Resources probably way less.

Basically what we know is that there haven't been any criminal charges filed, nor does there appear to be any NCAA activity. Whatever it is seems to be personal to Coach Smith.
