Look, I was hoping some news reporter would do this, but there is public record of a pending contested divorce filing by Smith’s wife last summer. The records in this case have been sealed. So I’m pretty sure this is family related, though sometimes allegations in messy divorces can draw scrutiny.
Posting details of these rumors would be a violation of board rules, but the divorce petition is public record.
First thing I told my wife; His wife found what she was looking for and now it's being added to the docket and it's gonna get ugly. And Lars doesn't know how to handle it. ie slapped together an announcement that was heavy on speculation and light on detail
I also am just flabbergasted by the announcement and the need for one, considering the timing. So I lean to worst case scenario, because thats the way it seems from the outside. Call it an AD who was ill-prepared for the moment. Embarrassment for all parties involved right now, two days before signing day, and we still have zero details confirmed. If you're a parent, do you have your child sign with a coach who may or may not have something pending? Who may not even be there? So why say anything at all? Even if he was having a Sark moment, you want to keep it quiet until you get your ducks in a row - not announce hes on leave when they don't play a football game for a month. They could've used the cover of bowl season to let news of immorality blow over.
