Does a team's defensive scored against statistic includes points scored against that team but not against its defense. A pick-6 for example, or a KO/punt return for a TD.

A perfect example: Syracuse found itself in a 21-0 hole by the middle of the first quarter and yet the Orangemen defense had yet to take the field. ND started the game by scoring on two pick 6s and one punt return. The Orangemen gave up 70 points in the game but the defensive stats should not reflect that as it gave up a mere 49 points.

Yup it goes against the defense. No different when a QB gets credit for an INT but it was actually hit and popped up by a receivers stone hands and picked off.

Thanks, MBC, although I can't say I agree with that.

Another interesting note about that game - ND led 49-0 at the half despite having possession for only 7 minutes to Syracuse's 23 minutes. Did someway say TOP is a key stat?
