Miami wins the tiebreaker vs two teams that beat them.

Hilarious.

Throw this system in the trash.

Just a bad look for the MAC as a conference in general.

MAC Official: "Yeah! You did beat Miami! But...because we got all these other metrics in place that we cherish so much, pretend that didn't happen! It didn't matter!"

Kinda more understandable why NIU left the MAC.

I'm not upset about us not getting the berth. But I am upset about Miami getting it. Ridiculous.

+1 This is the stupidest way to figure out a tie-breaker that I've ever heard of. It should have been either us or UT, since we both beat the Redchickens. Maybe Mr. 2000 is right, it's time to seek a new conference that isn't such a total embarrassment.

Go WMU crush the Redchickens!

The updated conference website has our record as 5-2 with the Buffalo game shown as non-conference.

What are they doing now? So, our game vs. Buffalo was a non-conference game all along?

The idea that the justification for Miami, is that their losses to the two teams in front of them, were better losses and therefore should JUMP BOTH …

Lmao it’s so insane I’m not even mad. It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in college football conference championship games.

I’ve heard we’ve been exploring the Sun Belt or ACC. Any truth to this? With the new as yet named investment on the horizon, maybe this is when the announcement comes?

Some fans have suggested the Sun Belt.

This BS makes them bark a little louder.

Interestingly, the Sun Belt has divisions. I think it's the only FBS conference with divisions.

I believe our Sports Administration program just honored Herr Doctor as alumnus of the year. Irony.

Miami will win another championship, which makes me sick.

Screw all the ideas where we go to another conference. Win THIS conference. We should have won this league, but we screwed the pooch against Ball State. Man up, swallow this, and let it drive you for next year.

Actually… screw that. That matters not at all. In this day and age of the transfer portal, there are no loyalties. The only ones feeling this pain are the fans. We get the pain, and our best players move on to power conferences. WHEEEEEE!

When was the team ever that good this season? If they were that good they would have won against Rutgers and defeated BalL State. It is what it is they've tracked the part of an 8-10 win team all season. Ohio is 12-0 the last two years at home but 2nd in FBS in turnovers at home the same time. Can't get away with that every week on the road.

While the opinion on Miami going to the MACC is never going to be popular on here, they were the team that deserved to go - based on the tie-breaker rules - whether anyone on here likes it or not. Yes, it's infuriating that in a 3-way tie amongst teams (MU, UT, OU) that the team (MU) that lost to BOTH others schools (UT, OU) gets to go. However, keep in mind that out of those three schools, Miami is the only one to have beaten WMU. Both UT and OU lost to WMU. Many people are quick to point out how Miami lost to both UT and OU but are failing to mention that important fact. And if we're all honest with ourselves, if Ohio found itself in the same boat as Miami is now, would the people on here complaining about Miami getting to go be saying Ohio shouldn't be going to Detroit right now? We all know the answer to that one.

That said, the head-to-head factor should count for much more IMO. In other tie-breaker models that are out there in some other conferences, Miami would have been removed based on that and the tie-breaker would have been decided between Ohio and Toledo. But that's not what the MAC has in place. I wasn't a fan of dropping divisions as it puts a much bigger premium on the tie-breaker criteria now. I get how the MAC wants/wanted to pit the two "best" teams in the MACC, but I still think there's going to be a lot of gray area on who those two teams actually are. Maybe the tie-breaker criteria will be tweaked, maybe not. But if we're sticking with not going to divisions, then we'd better get used to these kind of situations for years to come because they're likely going to pop up again more often than not.

Either we change the MAC Tiebreaker System, or this mental gymnastics BS isn't worth it for years to come. I totally disagree with your first paragraph.

Yes, the head-to-head factor should count for much more. The fact that we can put in a loophole where if all 3 teams don't play each other in the event of a tie, the H2H is wiped off the board like it never happened, makes this system a complete embarrassment.

Looking at the various conference final standings in this age of huge leagues and no divisions, this debate will be with us for years.

Take the ACC where a team plays only half of the teams in the 17 team conference. Virginia won the regular season and 5 teams tied for second with a 7 and 5 and unranked Duke playing for the conference title.

Or the SEC where a team only plays 8 of the other 15 teams. There is a four way tie for first and two 11 and 1 teams don't play in the conference title.

Yep. Excellent points. I never liked all this conference expansion that has materialized in recent years to begin with. And the MAC is actually still one the smaller conferences as there are 6 conference that have more teams than the MAC does. I'm old enough to remember and used to love when everyone in the MAC played played everyone once in football and twice in basketball. So much was decided on the field/court because of it. Nowadays, when it comes to your conference schedule (especially in football), it doesn't just matter who you do play, it also matters (sometimes even more) who you don't play. Per the example above, Virginia was picked 14th in the ACC this year and didn't have to play Miami, SMU or Clemson this year. Sure the 'Hoos are having a great year, but swap out three teams on UVa's schedule this year with the those three they avoided and they're probably not going to Charlotte next week. With the size of the conferences nowadays, you don't have to be one of the two "best" teams in the conference to actually make the championship game, you just have to do well enough vs the teams you actually had to face and hope the others beat each other up. Virginia or Duke will be the ACC Champion. That is a fact. Whoever wins that game is not the best team in the ACC. But they will be the ACC Champion. That is a fact.
